UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM SIMPSON, OF BERLIN,'GANADA.
IMPROVEMENT IN MIRROR-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 153,789, dated August 4, 1874; application filed May 1, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM SIMPsON, of Berlin, Province of Ontario, Dominion of Canada, have invented a new and Improved Mirror-Holder, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 rep resents a rear elevation of my improved mirror-holder attached to amirror-frame; and Fig. 2 is a vertical section, on the line 0 c, of the fasteningclamp of the wire holder.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to an improvement in the mode of fastening the mirror-holder patented to me under date of July 15, 1873, and numbered 140,851, to the frame, so that the required friction of the pivot-heads of the wireholder in its fastening-clamps is readily obtained, and the position of the mirror at any angle secured thereby.
My invention consists of a hinge-shaped fastening-clamp in which the end of the wire holder is placed and firmly held by a bindingscrew, attaching the clamp to the mirror-frame and bearing sidewise over the round part of the clamp and the end of the wire-holder.
In the drawing, A represents the mirrorframe, to which the wire-holder B is attached by means of hinge-clamps O, embracing, inwardly, the bent ends a of the holder. The hinge-clamp C is made of suitable sheet metal with a round part, b, fitting around the pivot end a and flat overlapping parts d. The flat part of the hinge-clamp is perforated near the round part a, so that the head of the fastening-screw e bears sidewise over part a, and binds thereby the pivot end of the holder in the clamp on being attached to the mirrorframe A. The required friction of the pivot ends of the wire-holder is thus obtained, so that the mirror may be hung under any angle to the wall, and the same degree of friction easily kept up by giving a few additional turns to the screw from time to time.
In the holder there is no alteration from my former patent of July 15, 1873, the improvement being in the clasp for attaching the holder to the frame. The end of the holder enters the edge of the frame in my old device, but with the use of the clasp the wire-holder is kept more out of sight. The end of holder (or pivot) has a metal bearing, which can be tightened by the screw should it become too loose to hold the frame in position, while the head of the screw, which fastens the clasp tothe frame, passes over the pivot, giving the required friction.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentr- The perforated hinged clamp Oand screw 6, combined with frame A and holder B, in the manner and for the purpose specified.
WILLIAM SIMPSON.
