Its thickness is about the twenty-fourth part of an inch. It tapers regularly from end to end, and is made of india-rubber or its equivalent vulcanized.

IMPROVEMENT IN RUBBER COVERINGS FOR WHIP-STOCKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 153,762, dated August 4, 1874; application led May 13, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE H. DOUGLAS, of Westfield, in the county of Hampden and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Manufacture or Covering for Whip- Stocks and do hereby declare the same to be lfully described in the following specification and represented in the accompanying drawings, of Which- Figure l denotes a perspective view of it; Fig. 2, a view of its larger end; Fig. 3, a view of its smaller end.
It is an elastic tapering seamless and Water proof tube, generally about seven feet in length, three-fourths of an inch in diameter at its larger end, and about three twentyfourths of an inch in diameter at its smaller end. Its thickness is about the twenty-fourth part of an inch. It tapers regularly from end to end, and is made of india-rubber or its equivalent vulcanized.
I do not confine it to the precise proportions above stated, as they may be varied to suit the size of the stock to be covered.
When used it is to be drawn endwise upon and thus preserves its glue or cement in its normal or hard condition, and being elastic, both lengthwise and w'idthwise, the covering can readily be made to fit any stock.
I claim As a new manufacture, the seamless elastic tapering and Water-proof Whip covering, substantially as described.
