COMBINED HORSE COLLAR AND HAME. APPLICATION FILED AUG. 29, 1906.
nvamtoz UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIOE.
COMBINED HORSE-COLLAR AND HANIE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 12, 1907.
Application led August 29,1906. Serial No. 332.525.
To all whom, t 'may concern.'
Be it known that I, JOSEPH MARTIN,a citi.- Zen of the United States, residing at Midland, in the county of Clinton and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in a Combined Horse-Collar and Haine, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to combined horsecollars and hames, and one of the principal objects of the same is to provide a hame with a suitable padding to bear against the shoulders of a horse, and thus dispense with the use of a horse-collar.
Another object of my invention is to provide means for rendering the harness less burdensome for the animal in dispensing with the usual heavy horse-collar. In Warm weather itis particularly uncomfortable to animals to wear the heavy padded collar, especially when heavy hames are connected thereto. By the use of a combined hame and collar made in accordance with my invention much of the weight is taken from the.
neck of the animal and the animal is permitted free movement without the galling effects of the heavy collar.
The objects and advantages above referred to are attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure l is a front elevation of a combined horse-collar and hame made in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the hame member before the padding is attached thereto. Fig. Sis asectionalview on the line 3 3, Fig. l, looking in the direction of the arrow.
Referring to the drawing for a more particular description of my invention, the numeral 1 designates a hame, which may be formed of wood and provided with recesses or shoulders 2 3 at the opposite sides thereof.
A rounded enlargement 4 is formed on the outer curved side of the hame, and the inner bearing-surface is curved, as at 5, to provide a recess for the pad. The pad 6 is connected to the hame by first securing the inturned edge '7 by means of tacks or other suitable fastenings 8 against the shoulder 2. The pad is then drawn around the hame to fit within the curved portion 5, and the opposite end is then secured against the shoulder 3 by Y means of tacks or fasteners 9. In this Way the tacks or fasteners 8 are covered within collar and hame consisting of wooden hamesections, each having a recess and shoulder at the opposite edges thereof, an enlargement formed near the outer edge of said hame-section, and a curved recess extending longitudinallyof the hame between the shoulders, and a pad secured to one of said shoulders by fastening means driven through the inner side of the pad and into the hame, and the other edge of the pad being secured by fastenings driven from the outer side of the pad into the hame, said pad being disposed in the curved recess extending longitudinally of the hame, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH MARTIN.
