Be it known that 1, CHARLES EDWARD Soorr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Isaban, in the county of McDowell and State of WVest Virginia, have invented ce tain new and useful improvements in Electrical Resistance, of which the follow ing is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in electrical resistance and is more particularly adapted to a means for regulating the tension of the resistance element.
Qne of the important objects of the present invention is to provide an electrical resistance of the above mentioned character which is principally adapted to be used in connection with electric welding.
A further object of the invention'is to provide an electrical resistance of the above mentioned character, which is simple in construction, inexpensive, strong and durable and furthermore adapted for the purposes for which it is designated.
Other objects and advantages of this in vention will become apparent during the course of the following description In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals designate like parts throughout the same:

In the drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred Illbodiment of my invention. the numeral 1 designates generally the frame of my electrical resistance and the same is preferably formed of wood or any other non-conductive material. The frame comprises a plurality of upper and lower longitudinally extend inobars 2 l, 6 and 7 respectively. The upper bars are arranged in parallel spaced relation with respect to each other by means of the cross member 8 arranged at the ends thereof while the lower bars are arranged in spaced relation with respect to each other by means of the cross bars 9. The vertical members 10 support the upper bar in spaced relation with respect to the lower bar and for the purpose of supporting the frame I. provide the brackets 11.

bars are the hook members 12, the same being threaded through the bars and having the clamping nuts 13 associated with the outer threaded ends thereof it being understood that the hook ends of the hook members are disposed in opposed relation with respect to each other with reference to the hooks on the upper bars and the hooks on the lower bars. The purpose of the hook members 12 is to provide a means for sup porting and regulating the tension of the resistance elements which in the present invention consist of the chain units l4, l5 and 16 respectively. The unit 14 is adapted to be supported between the upper and lower bars 2 and 3 and is arranged in the manner clearly shown in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawing. Certain of the links are in engagement with the opposed books. The unit 15 is adapted to be supported between the intermediate bars 4 and 5 respectively in the manner shown while the unit 16 is supported between the upper and lower bars 6 The sectional units are furthermore so arranged as to have the unit 14 arranged adjacent one end of the frame. the unit 16 adjacent the opposite end of the frame and the unit 15 arranged centrally of the frame.
For the purpose of forming a connection between the several units. I provide the chain 17 which extends from the unit 14 to the unit 15 while the diagonal chain 18 eX- tends from the unit 16 to the unit 15 in the manner clearly shown in Figure 2 of the drawing. In this manner a continuous resistance element will be provided in the form of a chain and the tension thereof may be regulated by adjusting the necessary hook members in the manner as is obvious from the construction shown. If desired. a coil spring may be associated with the threaded ends of the hooks and the clamp ing' nut l3 associated therewith.
A terminal such as is shown at 19 may be placed on any of the threaded ends of the hooks for obtainingthe desired resistance in the manner as is well known in the art. AS heretofore stated. a resistance of the above mentioned character. is principally adapted to be used in connection with electrical welding machines although the same may be used for any other desired purpose wherever resistance is desired. Should any of the links of the chain comprising the reoil sistance becoine burnt and thus broken, the
resistance may be readily adjusted to again be placed in an operative position. 7
