SKYLIGHT-CURTAIN MOUNTING AND ADJUSTIN 'G MEANS.

Application filed March 9, 1928.

My present invention has to do with curtains for skylights, and it contemplates the provision of means whereby a curtain may he mounted with facility in proper relatlve arrangement to a skylight, and means whereby the curtain may be expeditiously and easily adjusted for the purpose of obscuring light passing through the skylight to a greater or less degree as different conditions demand.

To the attainment of the foregoing, the invention consists in the improvement hereinafter described and definitely claimed.

In the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification:

Figure 1 is a view partly in vertical section and partly in elevation illustrating the arrangement of the preferred embodiment of mv invention relative to a skylight.

Figure 2 is a top plan view with the skylight glass removed.

Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary de tail illustrating the connection of the transverse rod to the curtain.

Figure 4 is a detail enlarged side elevation of one of the brackets to which one of the longitudinal rods of the curtain is fixedly connected.

Figure 5 is an enlarged detail section illustrative of the manner in which the curtain is suspended from the longitudinal rod.

Similar numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all the views of the drawings.

1 show in Figures 1 and 2 the frame 1 of a skylight 2.

To one end bar of the frame 1 I fix in appropriate manner a plurality of spaced brackets one of which is shown in Figure 4. Each of the said brackets 3 is preferably of T-form, and on the portions of the brackets which extend at substantially right angles to the end bar of the frame 1 are arranged a plurality of hooks 4. and a pluraL ity of comparatively large hooks 5, the hooks 5 being equipped with set screws 6. Also on the said portions of the brackets 3 are pulley blocks, each pulley block 7 being provided with two pulleys movable independently of each other.

Fixed to the other ,end bar of the frame 1 in spaced relation, and arranged, by preferance, in a horizontal plane below that of the brackets 3, are brackets .8. The brackets 8 in common with the brackets 3 are of as general T-form, and are provided on their portions disposed at an angle to the end frame bar with hooks ,4" similar to the before described hooks .1. Each of the brackets 8 is also provided with a pulley 9.

The curtain comprised in my improvement is of flexible character and may be made of any material compatible with its purpose. The said curtain is designated by 12, and is provided at proper point throughout 7. 0 its area with blocks 13 in which are sheaves or pulleys 14; disposed above the longitudinal rods 10 so as to enable the said rods 10 to adequately support .the curtain. At one end, the curtain I2 is provided with a trans- Z? verse rod 15, the said rod 15 being seated in the books 5 of the brackets 3 and being secured in h said ho k 5 th o gh the medium of the set screws 6 complementary .to the hooks .5. The other end of the curtain 12 is 8.9 equipped with a transverse rod 16. The said rod 16 appropriately secured ,to the end of the curtainis arranged below and in vertical coincidence with a transverse series ,of the blocks 10 so that the rod 16 will be di- $5 rectly suspended from the several rods 10. It will also be noticed (by particular reference to Figure v3 that the ends of the rod 16 are extended beyond the side edges ofthe curtain 12 so that the end portions of cables 17 39 are conveniently connected to the adjacent end portions of the rod 16.

There are two of the cables 17 employed, one adjacent to each side edge ,of the curtain 12, and it will be understood that each cable 17 extends from the rod 16 over one of ,the pulleys 9 and is then carried toward one of the pulleys 7; also, that the other portion of the cable 17 extends from the rod 16 toward one of the pulleys 7, and that both plan mo tions of each cable 17 are carried over pulleys 7 and are joined by bights 18 which depend froin the pulleys 7 after the manner illustrated at the right of Figure 1. By virtue of this provision it will be understood that when one portion of each cable 18 or rather one portion of each cable bight 18 is pulled-upornthe curtain will be extended below the skylight glass 2 so as to obscure the passage of light through the glass 2, while when the other bight portion is pulled upon the curtain will be retracted or moved toward the end bar of the frame to which the brackets 3 are connected.

It will be apparent from the foregoing that through the medium of my improvement an adjustable curtain may be expeditiously andeasily attached to a skylight frame, and when desired, a person standing on the floor of aroom may conveniently and with but little efiort extend or retract the curtain 12 and this to a greater or less degree as difi'erent conditions demand. It will also be appreciated that by the virtue of my improvement the curtain is adequately supported throughout its area, and this in suchmanner that there is little liability of any portion of the curtain being caught incident to the adjustment of the curtain.

I have entered into a detailed description of the construction and relative arrangement of parts embraced in the present and preferred embodiment of my invention in order to impart a full, clear and exact understanding of the said embodiment. I do not desire, however, to be understood as limitinr;- myself to the construction and relative arrangement of parts as disclosed, my invention being defined by my appended claim within the scope of which modifications may be made without departure from my invention.

Having thus described'the invention, what I claimas new is In combination, bracket members adapted to be fixed to one end bar of a skylight frame and extend at an angle thereto, means adapted to be'connected to the other end bar of such a frame and extend at an angle thereto, rod supporting means carried by the first named bracket means and equipped with set screws, a rod fitted in said rod supporting means and secured by the set screws thereof, hooks carried by both of the bracket means, longitudinal rods interposed between and connected to the said hooks, a curtain of flexible material connected with the said seated rod, and having at its opposite end a movable transverse rod, blocks connected to said curtain and having rollers disposed and movable on the longitudinal rods, pulleys carried by the first named bracket means, pulleys carried by the second named bracket means, and cables arranged adjacent to the side edges of the curtains ture.
