IMPROVEMENTIN RANGE-CHIMNEY BOTTOM PLATES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N o. 153,560, dated July 28, 1874; application filed May 29, 1874.
To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, HAMILTON O. GARwoon, of Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented anew and Improved Range-Chimney Bottom Plate, of which the following is a specification:
Figures 1 and 2 are transverse sections of a range-chimney bottom plate, showing the application of my present invention; and Fig. 3 is a detail in side elevation.

I now propose to employ a rod, A, extending directly through the front wall, B, of the chimney, for working the valve 0 at the opening of the top of the chimney bottom plate F, for effecting the ventilation, the said rod being connected to the valve by a slotted arm, D, and a stud-pin, E, as shown. I will also have a tubular guard, Gr, extending through the chimney-wall to the chimney-plate for the rod to turn in properly, so as not to rest in the This guard may or may not be attached to the bottom plate; but, if attached, it may be screwed into it when inserted in the hole through the wall, or inserted into or slipped over a short tube on the plate.
