S. VWHITNUM.
Wash
Boilers.
Patented my 21,1874.
/M/gww NITED STATES PATENT OEEIcEa SAMUEL VVHITNUM, OF GREEN POINT, LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN WASH-BOILERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No.153,410, dated July 21, 1874; applicatlon tiled June 15, 1874.
To all whom it may concerne Be it known that I, SAMUEL WEITNUM, of Green Point, Long Island, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Boilers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a wash-boit er, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure lis a cent1-al longitudinal section, and F ig. 2 a plan view with cover removed.
A represents a wash-boiler, made of any desired size and shape, and provided with an interior perforated false bottom, B, resting upon suitable supports a. At the upper end of the boiler is an outer rim or water-space, C, into which the cover D iits tightly, as shown. In the boiler A, below the false bottom B, is an inlet, b, for admitting fresh water, and in the bottom of the Water-space C is an outlet, d, for overiiow. Above the boiler, and placed .on a shelf or elsewherefis the feeder G, to furnish a fresh supply of water.
When the clothes and water are in the boiler,
and the water begins to boil, the dirt and scum will naturally rise to the surface, and as it boils it flows lover into the water-space C, and from there, through the outlet d, by means of a hose, F, may be drained into any suitable space. As it boils, fresh water may be admitted from the feeder G from time to time through a hose, E, connecting the feeder with the inlet b, until the clothes are perfectly clean.
As electricity has a great eifect indecomposing vegetable andother matter, I propose, if necessary, to pla-ce a 'galvanic battery vin communication with the boiling water in the washer, and thus materially help the cleansing ofthe clothes.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
rlhe boiler A, provided with the inlet b and overflow-chamber c, having outlet d, in combina-tion with the feeder G, arranged and operating substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim thc foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SAMUEL WHITNUM. Witnesses:
HENRY J. OLDRING, J r., G. ADRIAN PoYU'rAR.
