Guarani-non rlx'rwnn.
Application filed December 30; 1922; Serial No; 609,851;
To all whom it mag concerne- Be it known t-hat'l, \Vnmmrr VV." Koz iu'insnr, a citizen of the United States,- and resident of liffilwankee; in the county of hililwauke'e and State of l i iscofnsin; have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain Rod Fixtures; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full; cleaig and exact description thereof;
The invention relates to curtain rod fixturcs and comprises a pairof clamps each adapted to be secured to a longitudinal facing member and carrying a supptjrt to which an extensible curtain rod is;detachably sec ured the supports extending upwardly so as to retain the rod in proper position over the upper horizontal facing member.
An object of the invention is the pro- Yision of a construction adapted to be readily assembled and conveniently attinetl to the facing. The clamps may be tightened conveniently by the manual operation of a thumb screw carried byeach clamp; and the curtain rod is readily extensible and provided with a finger ateach end adapted to be conveniently inserted into a slot in each of the supports After the installation of-the fixtures, the parts are retained in position without danger ofaccidentally becoming loose.
A feature of they invention is the provi-i sion of the supports, each of which extends upwardly :trom a clamp and spaces the curtain rod a proper distance upwardly so that the curtain overlies a considerable portion of the upper facing. Each of the supports has a pair of slots therein and is adapted to retain a plurality of curtain rods whereby inner and outer curtains may be held in position.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a construction that is especially simple and easy to manufacture, made of a minimum number of parts, and durable.
With the above and other objects in view, which will appear as the description pro ceeds, the invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, substantially as hereinafter described and more particularly defined by the appended claims, it being understood that such changes in the precise embodiment of the herein disclosed invention may be made as come within the scope of the claims.
In the accompanying drawing is illus trated one complete example of the physical embodiment of the present invention constructed according. to the best mode so far devisedvfor the practical application of the prlnciples thereof;
In the drawings i I e Figure l is a side elevation of the entire device in position on the window facg= o 1 Figure 2 is a section on the line 22 of Figure 1. I
Figure 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of F igure 1. A
Figure 4 is a detail of an end of the curtain rod.- I
Figuree is a fragmentary perspective view showing the parts at one end of the apparatus detached; 1
I On vertical facing 10 clamp members11- 11 are positioned. Clamp member 11 has an arm 12 extending about the corner of the facing and exercising agrip thereon by meansof teeth 1.8.1 Clamp member 11 has a similar arm 12 exercising a similar grip ping action: Rigid with clamp member 11 is an elongatedplate. 14k lying along the surface of the facing and underlying a portion of clamp 11;. Clamp member 11 isprovided with a slot 15 receiving a rivet 16 outwardly projecting from" plate 14.
hus the clamp member 11 is slidable with respect to the plate.
Clamp members 11-11 are provided with outwardly projecting portions 1717 re spectively, having alined apertures receiving thumb screw 18 which may be manually adjusted to tension the clamp on the facing. On vertical facing 10 a similar clamp 19 is positioned. Clamp 19 comprises a pair of clamp members similar to clamp members 11-11 and has similar parts operating in the same manner as those cooperating with clamp members 11 11.
From clamp member 11 a support extends upwardy comprising a vertical rod 20 bent forwardly at its upper end and then. downwardly, forming an outer portion 21 bent in at 22. The lower inner end of rod 20 and the lower outer end of portion 21 are secured to clamp 11 and plate 14; by rivets 23. Clamp 19 carries a similar support composed of two separate bars as previously described in connection with the left hand support. This support is indicated general- 1y by the reference character 2e.
The curtain ro'd comprises a male member 25 and a sheath 26, the sheath having a smooth outer surface and a pair of inner flanges 27, the flanges and outer portion effectively retaining the male member 25 and permit free sliding movement thereof. Ad jacent the end of the sheath 26, and adjacent the end of the male member 25 are positioned adapters 2S and 31 respectively. These adapters are illustrated in plan and in elevation, respectively, in Figures & and It will be seen that they are secured by means of rivets 29 to the respective members 25 and 26. Each adapter is provided with a slot extending upwardly, as shown in Figure 3, adapted to receive a portion of the bar 21. They are also each provided with a downwardly extending finger 30, see Figure 3, which fits between the bars 20 and 21. It will be seen from reference to Figure 5 that the slot 31 is adapted for the reception of the adapter, which has a slot 31 therein with the fingers 30 located between the bars 20 and 21. Sheath 26 is curved as shown in Fig. 4 adjacent its end. Male member 25 is similarly curved.
Each of the supports is provided with an additional slot 3232 for-the reception of fingers of adapters on an additional rod. Thus the supports may carry an inner and outer curtain. The slots extend downwardly for a slight distance in outer portion 21 of a support, and also inwardly to the upper end of the inner portion of rod 20 so that the adapters are disassembled by pushing finger 80 downwardly in the slot, the finger being retained against accidental displacement by rod 20 and outer portion 21.
Obviously the clamps may be readily secured in position and the supports space the top of the curtain outwardly a proper distance so that it covers a proper portion of horizontal facing 33. The extensibility of the rod permits ready usage of the curtain on windows of varied width. The construction is simple, easy to manufacture, made of the minimum number of parts, and durable.
Claims:
1. The combination of a bracket having clamping arms adapted to engage opposite sides of a vertical facing, means for draw ing said arms towards each other, a support extending upwardly from said clamping arms and having a pair of spaced bars one of which is slotted, and an adapter having a slot extending upwardly from its lower edge thereby providing a downwardly extending finger adapted to be positioned between said bars, said slots in said barand adapter being adapted to receive a portion of said adapter and bar, respectively.
2. The combination of a bracket having clamping arms adapted to engage opposite sides of a vertical facing, means fordrawing said arms towards each other, a support extending upwardly from said clamping arms and having a pair of spaced integrally formed bars one of which is slotted, and an adapter having a slot extending upwardly from its lower edge thereby providing a downwardly extending finger adapted to be positioned between said bars, said slots in said bar and adapter being adapted to receive a portion of said adapter and bar, respectively.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin.
