IMPROVEMENTv IN PACKAGE-TIES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 15 3,265, dated July 21, 1874; application filed June 30, 187 4.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AUGUST MILLER, of Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and Improved Package-Tie, and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and complete description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings making part of the same.
Figure l is a side view of a package having attached thereto the tie. Fig. 2 is a detached view of a tie.
Like letters of reference refer to like parts in the several views.
The object of this invention is to provide a neat, elastic, and secure tie for binding textile coverings to cans, jars, pails, Ste., without tying said bands or ties.
The construction and manner of applying said ties are as follows:
The tie referred to consists of two sections of wire, A B, the length and size whereof bcin g according to the package on which it is to be used. In each end of section A is formed an eye, B, in which is secured a loop or piece of elastic cord or webbing, C. Each end of section B is formed into a hook, D, around which the loop or webbing is caught, as shown in the drawings.
Fig. 2 represents the band or tie. Both ends of the elastic pieces may be permanently secured to the section B for ordinary uses.
The application of the tie to the package will be readily understood by the illustration, Fig. l, in which E represents a jar, over the mouth whereof is drawn a piece of textile fabric or other material, F. This is gathered in around the sides or neck of the package, and thereto secured by the tie above described, which is placed on or around it, as shown.
The peculiar advantage of a tie made as herein set forth is its easy and ready adjustment to the package by its being, in part, already bent into a circle for the neck of the can, and at the same time is stiff by reason of the wire sections, somewhat as a hoop, so that it is more easily slipped onto a package than one made entirely of flexible or elastic material.
The elastic side pieces maybe hitched to the hook G, and thereby add to their length, so that the tie can be used 011 a larger pack age.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The package-tie, consisting of the elastic webbing or cord C and metal sections A B, constructed as described, and for the purpose set forth.
AUGUST MILLER.
