ADVERTISING AND DISPLAY APPARATUS.
Application. filed August 17, 1923. Serial No. 657,958.
To all trihom it may concern.
Be it known that. I, EDWARD BnUNHorr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Advertising and Display Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in display and vending apparatus. One of its objects is to provide improved apparatus to display and assist in advertising and vending mechandise of different kinds. Another object is to provide an improved apparatus for that purpose which is collapsible into compact space when not in use for shipment and storage purposes. Another object is to provide simple efficient and att active means to hold the original containers in an inclined position to display the contents thereof to customers. .Another object is to provide therewith means to close the open end of the original containers to protect the goods from dust, and to retain moisture therein and at. the same time afford ready access to the contents of the original container when desired. My invention also comprises certain details of form, and combination and arrangement of components, all of which will be fully set forth in the description of the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1, is a perspective view of a display and vending apparatus embodying my invention. Y
Fig. 2, is a side elevation of the same in collapsed condition.
Fig. 3, is a perspective view of one of the frame members detached.
Fig. 4, is a perspective view of another frame member detached.
Fig. 5, is a perspective view of the transparent lid detached. Fig. 6, is a. perspective view similar to Fig.
1, illustrating a modification thereof.
The accompanying drawings illustrate the preferred embodiments of my invention in which 15 represents the forward frame l'l'lenr ber comprising side rails 1.6 cross bars 17 and 18, and an apron 19. A rear frame member 20 is hinged or pivotally connected at its forward end to the cross bar 17. The lower end of the frame 15 and the rear endof the a rear frame 20 are designed to rest upon a counter or show-case and shoulders 21 and 22 of the rear frame 20 engage the rear edges of the side rails 16 to limitthe relative movement of the frame members 15 and 20.
A lid frame 24 is hinged upon the cross bar 18 and recessed to receive and hold a glass or othentransparent panel 25tlirough Which the goods maybe observed by a prospective customer. The transparent panel 25 may be of rectangular or circular pattern to be employed with original packages of rectangular or cylindrical type. An original package 26, after its lid has been removed, a sheet metal cigar box for instance, is placed in an inclined position upon the rear frame member 20 with its bottom rest-'- ing against the upturned end 27 of frame member 20, and the open end of the original packages between the side rails 16 in position ber 20. A tongue 29 enables the lid 24 to be lifted upon its hinge axle 18 to give access to the contents of the original package whendesired. y
The apron 19 is designed to carry an advertisement of the goods being vended from the original package. This may be effected by painting or otherwise attaching an ad vertisen'ient to the front face of said apron. If desired the lid of the original package with the label, trade-mark or advertising matter usually placed upon such lids may be detachably mounted upon the front of the apron 19, as for instance by telescoping the lid or lids 32 over a sheet metal band 81 attached to the front of the apron 19 as SllOWItTlTl Fig. 6. In. Fig. 6, I have illustrated a supporting frame adapted to support. a plurality of original packages at the same time side by side and provided with two transparentliinged lids 34 and 35. The hinged lids serve to exclude dust and dirt, prevent the goods losing an undue amount of moisture, and display and add to the ap pearance of the goods. If desired advertising matter may be carried upon the trans parent panels 25. I
For the purposes of shipment and storage the frame members 15 and 20 and lid 24 fold together into compact space as shown in Fig. 2, and in this condition are adapted to be nested and conveniently safely and com pactly assembled and packed for shipment.
The apparatus herein shown and described is capable of considerable modification without departing from the spirit of my invention.
What I claim is:
1. An advertising and display apparatus comprising a forward frame member having an opening in its upper end and adapted to be supported in an inclined position, arear frame member connected pivotally to said forward frame member at substantially the lower margin of the opening in said forward frame member and extending rearwardly and downwardly from said forward frame member to serve as a support for an original package resting upon its side in an inclined position with its open end framed by the opening in said forward frame member, and a lid member hinged to said forward frame member and adapted to normally close the open month of the original package and the opening in said, forward frame member.
2. An advertising and display apparatus comprising a forward frame member having an opening in its upper end and adapted to be supported in an inclined position, av rear frame member connected pivotally to said forward frame member at substantially the lower margin of the opening in said for ward frame member and extending rearwa-rdly and downwardly from said-forward frame member to serve as a support for an original package resting upon its side in an inclined position with its open end framed by' the opening in said forward frame member, and a lid member hinged to said forward frame member and provided with a. transparent panel, said lid being adapted to normally close the open mouthof the original packageand to disclose the contents of the original package through said transparent panel, and to afford convenient access to the interior of said original package 3. An advertising and display apparatus comprising a; forward frame member hav ing an advertising apron at its lower end and an opening at its upper end, a rear frame member hinged at one end at an intermediate position on said forward frame member and having a limited movement rotatable relative to said forward frame member and adapted in active position to serve with said forward frame member to support an original package in an inclined position with its open end framed by the opening in the upper end of said forward frame memher, and a lid member hinged to said for ward frame member and adapted to nor mally close the open mouth of the original package and to afford convenient access to the interior of said original package.
4. An advertising and display apparatus comprising a forward frame member having an apron at its lower end and an opening at its upper end, arear frame member hinged at one end of said forward frame member at a point substantially midway of said forward frame member, interengaging stop members carried by said respective frame members to limit the relative movement of said frame members upon their hinge axle, and a. lid hinged to said forward frame member and adapted to close the opening therein, said frame members being adapted to support an original package in an in clined position with its open end framed by the opening in said forward frame member and normally closed by said lid.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto.
affixed my signature.
EDWARD BRUNHOFF.
