Description

M. D. PRICE March 17,1925.
GARTER Filed Nov. 13, 1922 Patented Mar. 17, 1925. I
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MITCHELL 13. PRICE, OF MIAMI, FLORIDA.
GARTER.
Application filed November 13, 1922. Serial No. 600,751. v
the necessity of the usual metallic buckle whereby possibility of the sharp edge of the buckle contacting the leg of the wearer is obviated. r
A further feature of the invention resides in the constructional arrangement whereby the limb encircling member of'the garter may be adjusted without the necessity of the usual slip buckle heretofore employed. Furthermore by reason of the garter construction herein illustrated the fastening or unfastening of the limb encircling member may be accomplished with facility.
The advantageous features and details of construction will be made more apparent as the description proceeds, especially when considered in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein Fig. 1 is a fragmentary perspective view constructed in accordance with my invention, I
Fig. 2 is a similar view with the garter unfastened, and
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary plan view of a portion of the garter with the length of the limb encircling member adjusted.
Referring now particularly to the drawings wherein like reference characters indi' cate like parts throughout it will be noted that there is illustrated a garter pad 10 which is preferably of the shape shown in the drawings, which pad is provided with a hose engaging member 11 which can be of any desired type or construction. The pad 10 is, as in other known types of garters, formed of cloth or fabric and attached thereto as at 12 is one end of a limb encircling member 13 which is preferably, al though not necessarily, formed of elastic material.
The free end of the limb encircling member 13 is formed with an enlargement or roll 14 which may be provided by rolling the end of the limb encircling member or by securing to the limb encircling member a small metal cylinder or the like which will be enveloped and enclosed by the end of the limb encircling member and thereby securely fastened thereto. In any event a roll or enlargement 14 is provided for a purpose which will be later apparent.
Secured to the pad 10 in spaced parallel relation is a plurality of guiding and securing hook members, these members being'here' indicated as three in number and designated by the reference characters 15, 16 and 17.-
Obviously the number of these hook mem here as well as the distance between the same may be varied as constructional require Each hook member is substantially U as to facilitate the insertion of the limben circling member therein.
The arrangement of 1s preferably, although not necessarily, as
illustrated in'the drawings, with two ofthe members disposed with their open side toward the bottom and with the intermediate member 16 disposed so that its open side is arrianged adjacent'the upper edge of the a 1 p In ordinary use of the garter, the free end of the limb encircling member 13 is fastened to the pad in the manner illustrated in Fig. 1, thatis, by causing the limb encircling member to engage the spaced hook members, with the enlargement or roll 14 hearing against the member 17 disposed adjacent :the inner end of the pad. Obviously the limb encircling member may be easily inserted in these guiding and fastening members by slipping the edge thereof under the upturned end 19 of each member. Furthermore it will be apparent thatshould it be desired to increase the active length of the limb encircling member that the limb encircling member need only to engage two of the members or in fact, only one, the enlargement 14: in this instance engaging either the member 16 or the member 15 as will be immediately ap arent.
n the other hand should it become neces,
the hook members ments dictate. e
sary to shorten the activelengtli-iofthe limb encircling; men'1ber 13 this may be aoconr plished in the manner clearly illustrated in Fig. 3. In this figure it, Will'be noted that the limb encircling member is looped'around the innermost hook member 17 and is then again passed through the member 16 and the enlargement 1%; caused; tojengage the outermost member 15.
