BELT'ATTACHMENT FOR CORSETS.
Application filed August 19,1925. semi No.. 51,179.
J the body of the wearer, to hold the upper ends of the corset staves against buckling outwardly.
The device is further adapted to be used,
against the lower part of the front of the 3 corset to cause the staves to be flexed inward- 1y beneath the abdomen thereby causing the upper central portion of the staves to be flexed outwardly to relieve some of the pressure upon the stomach and diaphragm.
J The invention contemplates the provision of a short flat slightly arcuate non-resilient plate having a restricted button hole slot in the central portion thereof and having apertures through each end thereof for the engagement of each end of the plate by an elastic strap or belt. This plate is designed, as above set forth to lie fiat against the outer face of the corset either at the top or at the lower portion thereof to cause the 9 steel staves of the corset to be flexed in the desired manner.
A further and final object of the invention is the provision, in a manner ashereinafter set forth, of a device of the type F above described which is of simple structure, easily and quickly applied to any desired position and inexpensive to manufacture.
The invention will be best understood from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, with the understanding that the invention is not confined to any i strict conformity with the showing of the drawing but may be changed and modified so long as such changes and modifications mark no material departure from the salient features of the invention as expressed in the appended claim.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a perspective view of a corset showing two of the devices embodying this invention applied thereto.
3 Figure 2 is a detailed perspective view of the plate per se.
Figure 3 is adetailedperspective view of themodification of the plate shown in ure 2.
Referring 110W to the drawing in detail wherein like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 1 indicates a corset hav-Y ing the usual staves 2 built into the body thereof.
The front staves 3 which normally extend in parallel relation throughout the length of the garment are here shown, one thereof being provided with the usual buttons 4: while the other has the slots 5 formed therein for engagementover the button to hold the garment in place.
As is well known the body of a wearerv particularly in the region of the diaphragm tends through the curvature thereof to cause the upper end or ends of the corset staves 2 and 3 to be fiexed'outwardly causing discomfort to the wearer and also. causing the The device embodying thisinventionis designed to overcome this difficulty caused by the outwardly extending stay ends and the device comprises a metal plate indicated generally by the numeral 6. This plate is of stiff non-bending material and the top and bottom edges 7 and 8 respectively are slightly curved giving to the plate a slightly arcuate shape.
At the center of the plate there is formed a button-hole aperture having a large portion 9 through which the head of one of the buttons 4 is adapted to be passed and a constricted portion 10 which engages about the neck of the button beneath the head pre venting the plate from slipping off of the same.
Each end of the plate 6 is provided with a substantially triangularly shaped aperture 11, one side thereof runningparallel with .the side edge of theplate setting up the cross bars 12. Associated with the plate is an elastic belt or strap 13 which is of suflicient length to pass around the body of the wearer and one end of this strap is fixed across one of the bars 12 while the other end is passed over the other one of the bars 12 and secured to the strap body by means of a buckle 14 carried on the strap.
When the plate is placed in the position shown at the top of the garment as shown in Figure 1, the convexly'curved portion is arranged across the top of the staves with the button-:4 at thetop of the ;stay extended through the'button-hole 9. When the'stra'p has been drawn to position, the plate is then forced inwardly against the upper ends of the staves causing the saiiie" to be bent in- Wardly and thus removing'any unsightly bulges at the top of the garment As shown iii in Figurel, the plate is socurved'as to align itself with the curve ofthe strap across the front of thebod thus: pre ventiriglany wrinkling where tli plate. 7 I
Another one; oi -the devices m'ay tensed ing the upper central portion ofthe staves to be curved slightly outwardly relieving solne'of the pressure against-the stomach-and diaphragm:
In Figure 3'is shown lnodifica't'ionpf the structure shownin Figure 2;" In this for-In the plate 6 is provided with integral tongues or hooks 15' whiclras slioWIfa-r'e locatedo'ne adjacent each-end *ofthe pl ate and depend from the top edge thereof It sornetinies e strap attaches-" to the happens-that the buttons upona corset are not positioned in a Way to niak-e t'h'e use of the plate shown in Figure 2, convenient, in which event the plate shown in Figure 3 may be" used engaging the tongues over the top edge of the garment instead of suspend ingvthe same from a button.
rom the foregoing description it will be readily seen that there has been provided a new andnoveldevice for use in connection with garments" or the class described; which device 1s simple 1n structure, I easily and quickly applied and eflicient forthe purpose for which intended; I
Having thus described my invention What I-clain1is':" I v p A corset stay securing device ofthe characte'r set forth; comprising an elongated'plate'- having belt receiving slot through eachend thereofand further having, a tthe' c-en trail portion thereof, a button slot adapted to engage a corset' button; a pair of prongs extending-from one edge ofthe-p'late across one face thereof in" spaced relation thereto for engaging over the top edge ota corset,
said'prongs' being located one adjacent each end of and overlying a slot in said" plate, and a-body encircling strap having the ends thereof engaging-in said slots in the plate.
In testimony whereof, I" affix my signature hereto.
LOU LANCASTER.
