Be it known that lf, ROBERT F. McRnNUs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new anduseful Improvements in a Vanity Case, of which the following is a specification,

This invention relates to a so called vanity case adapted for containing` and carrying loose face powder and a powder puff, the case being so constructed that the puff will be contained in a chamber separate from the powder containing chamber.

The powder chamber is provided with a fill opening having a closure separate from the cover of the case, and the powder is dispensed through an opening in the wall of the case, at the will of the user, the dispensing opening being closed by a suitable closure, which latter must be in a position to close the dispensing opening before the cover of the case can be closed, thereby in suring that no powder will be accidentally delivered through the dispensing opening therefor.

A further object is to provide an improved case of this character in which there is provided a separate container for ronge and apuff. the rouge container serving as a removable closure for the lill opening of the powder chamber, the rouge container itself being provided with a separate closure, access being readily had to the interior of the rouge container when it is in position to close the ll opening of the powder chamber.

To the attainment of these ends andthe accomplishment of other new and useful objects as wil appear, the invention consists in the features of novelty in substantially the construction, combination and arrangement of the several parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed and shown in the accompanying drawing illustrating this invention and in which,

Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of a vanity case of this character constructed in accordance with the principles of this invention and showing the case closed.

Figure 2 is a top plan view of the case in an open position.

Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 1 of a modified form of the invention.

Referring more particularly to the drawing body portion of a case having' a closure 11 pivotally connected thereto by, means of a suitable hinge 12. Carried by the inner face of the cover or closure 11 is a mirror 18. all of the above referred to parts may be of the ordinary and well known construction and may be of any desired size and configuration and constructed of any suitable material. i

Arranged within the case is a partition 1lv which extends transversely'thereof to form a closed chamber 15 and a superposed open chamber 16. rlhe partition 14 may be secured in position in anv desired or suitable manner and isA preferably provided with a depending flange 17 having a cut away portion 1'8 adapted to register with an opening 19 in the wall of the body 10 of the case proper. A closure 20 is provided for the opening 19 and is preferably located inside of the case so that the closure will be protected. This closure is connected with the case in any suitablemanner and for shifting movement with respect thereto to open and close the dispensing opening 19, preferably by being pivotally connected to the wall of the case as at 21. A linger engaging portion 22 is connected with the closure 20 and extends over the edgeA of the `wall of the case and within the path of the closing movement of the closure 11. Y

The partition 14 is provided with an opening 24 therethrough which serves as a fill opening for the compartment 15, and a portion of the partition encompassing the opening 24 is preferably flanged downwardly to form a slightly extended friction surface around the opening 24. This opening may be of any desired diameter of'any suitable configuration.

A separate container or receptacle 26 is provided with a closure 27 preferably hinged thereto asat 28. The receptacle 26 is of a size to tit snugly within the opening 24 and the portion of the receptacle which engages the flange 25 is of a conliguration to conform to the contour of the opening encompassed by the flange so that when the receptacle 26 is inserted in the opening 24, the receptacle will be frictionally but remov- The receptacle 26 will then serve as a closure for the opening 24 and it will be manifest that access may be had to the interior of the receptacle 26 while the latter is in position and when the closure 11 is open.

This receptacle 26 is adapted to contain a rouge compact 29 and a puff 3() to be used in connection therewith, and both are maintained isolated or out of `contact with the powder contained in the chamber 15.

The open chamber 16 is adapted to receive and hold a puff 31 to be used in connection with the powder contained in the chamber 15.

Then it is desired to refill the chamber 15, all that is necessary is to remove the container or receptacle 26, and powder may be then inserted into the chamber 15 through theopening 24.

In the form of the invention shown in Figure 3 the opening 24 is closed by a suitable closure 32 preferably in the form of a plug or stopper. VYith this vform of the invention, the case is Vadapted for containing and holding a loose face powder within the closed compartment- 15.

While the preferred forms of the invention have been herein shown and described, it is to be understood that various changes may be made in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of ',theyseveral parts, within the scope of the claims, without departing from the spirit of this invention.

What is claimed as new is:-

1. An article of the character described including a. case, a partition therein dividing the case into a closed and an open compartment, said partition having an opening forming a fill opening for the closed compartment, a closure for said opening, the said fill. opening and the closure therefor being disposed entirely within the said case, there being a dispensing opening through the wall of the case for material in the closed compartment, and a closure for the case.

2..An article of the character described including a case, a partition therein dividing the case into a closed and an open compartment, said partition having an opening within the case and forming a till opening for the closed. compartment, a closure for said opening, there being a dispensing opening through the wall of the case for the 1na terial in the closed compartment, a closure for the said case, a closure for the said dispensing opening, and means insuring the closing of the said dispensing opening to permit the closing of the case closure.

3. A vanity case including a case proper, a closure for the case, a partition dividing the case into superposed compartments, one of said compartments being closed, there being an opening in the partition forming a fill opening for the closed compartment, a closure for said opening, there being a dispensing opening for the closed compartment through the wall of the said case, and a closure for the last said opening.

4. A vanity case including a case proper, a closure for the case, a partition dividing the case into superposed compartments, one of said compartments being closed, there being an opening for the closed compartment, a closure for said opening, there being a dispensing opening for the closed compartment through the wall of the said case, and a closure for the last said opening, the last recited closure having a formation connected therewith and extending into the path of the closing movement of the first recited closure when the said dispensing opening is open.

5. A vanity case including a case proper, a closure for the case, a transverse partition dividing the case into superposed open and closed compartments, there being an opening in the partition forming a lill opening for the closed compartment, a closure for the opening, there being a dispensing opening for the closed compartment leading through the wall of the case and separate from the first recited opening, a closure for the said dispensing opening, and means connected with the last recited closure and adapted to be positioned in the path of the closing movement of the first recit-ed closure when the last recited closure is moved to open the said dispensing opening.,

6. A vanity case including a case proper, a closure for the case, a transverse partitionV dividing the case into superposed open and closed compartments, there being an opening for the closed compartment leading through the Wall of the case and separate from the first recited opening, a closure for the said dispensing opening, and means whereby the first recited closure Will maintain the last recited closure against an opening movement when the rst recited closure is closed.

7. A vanity case including a case proper, a transverse partition dividing the case into a closed and an open compartment, there being aA fill opening for the closed compartment in the said partition, a closure for said opening, the said fill opening and closure therefor being disposed entirely Within the said case,

a. closure for the case, there being a dis` pensing opening for the closed compartment through the wall of the case, and a closure for the said dispensing opening shiftably connected with the Wall of the case.

8. A vanity case including a case proper, a transverse partition dividing the case into a closed and an open compartment, there being a fill opening for the closed compartment in the said partition, a closure for said opening, a closure for case, there being a dispensing opening for the closed compartment through the Wall of the case, a closure for the said dispensing opening' and shiftably connected With the Wall of the case, and a formation connected with the dispensing opening closure7 movable upon the opening of the last recited closure into the path of the closing movement of the second recited closure.

9. A vanity case including a case proper, a closure for the ease, a partition dividing the case into an open and a closed compartment, there being a ll opening for the said closed compartment in the partition, a separate case, a closure for the separate ca se, the said separate case fitting Within the said opening and forming a removable closure for the opening, there being a dispensing opening for the said closed compartment extending through the Wall of the first recited case, and a closure for the last recited opening.

A vanity case including a case proper, a Closure for the case, a partition dividing the case into an open and a closed compartment, there being a lill opening for the said closed compartment in the partition, a separate case, a closure for the separate case, the said separate case fitting within the said opening and forming a removable closure for the opening, there being a dispensing opening for the said closed compartment ezitending through the Wall of the first recited case, a closure for the last recited open` ing, and a formation on the last recited closure adapted to be positioned in the path of closing movement of the first recited closure When both of the closures are opened.

ll. A vanity case including a case proper, a closure for the case, a partition dividing the case into an open and a closed compartment, there being a' fill opening in the partition for the closed compartment, a separate case, a closure individual to the said separate case, the said separate case removably fitting the said opening and constituting a closure therefor, there being' a di spensing opening for the said closed compartment extending through the Wall of the first said case, and a separate lclosure for the said dispensing opening, said closures being separately operableY and access being had to the interior of the said separate oase While the latter is in position and forming a closure for the'said fill opening.

12. A vanity ease including a case proper, a closure for the case, a partition dividing the case into an open and a closed compartment, there being a fill opening in the partition for the closed compartment, a separate case, a closure individual to the said separate case, the said separate case removably fitting the said opening and constituting a closure therefor, therel being a dispensing opening for the said closed compartment extending through the Wall of the first said case, a separate closure for the said dispensing opening, said closures being separately operable and access being had to the interior of the said separate case While the latter is in position and forming a closure for the said fill opening, and a mirror carried by one of the said closures.

13. A vanity ease including a case proper, a closure for the case, a partition dividing the case into an open and a closed compartment, there being a fill opening in the partition for theelosed compartment, a separate case, a closure individual to the said separate case, the said separate case removably fitting the said opening and constituting a closure therefor, there being a dispensing opening for the said closed compartment extending through the Wall of the first said case, a separate closure for the said dispensing opening, said closures being separately operable and access being had to the interior of the said separate case While the latter is in position and forming a closure for the said lill opening, and means Where by the first recited closure will operate to lock the dispensing opening closure against actuation when the former is closed.
