IMPROVEMENT lN FIRE-PLACE GRATES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 152,962, dated July 14, 1874; application filed May 1, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN BAWDEN, of Freehold, in the county of Monmouth and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Fire-Place Grates, of which the following is a specification:
The invention relates to grates for fireplaces, and contemplates such a change in their construction as will enable the grates to be conveniently packed for transportation, and at the same time allow them to be put up with facility and despatch.
Figure l of drawing is a front elevation; Fig. 2, a plan view; and Fig. 3, a sectional elevation.
I make my improvement in three pieces, as follows: E represents an ordinary tilting bottom, having journals F F; and D, a bearingframe for the bottom, supported on suitable projections from fire-place. It has front internal lip H to support the grate, and bearings G G to support its journals. B is the front,
having an internal'projecting flange that sustains the front of frame D, and side hooks J J by which it is hung to eye-loops 0r staples in the side walls of the fire-place.
By this relative construction in three parts I secure a grate that is packed and transported in a small compass, while it may be puttogcther and set up in the fire-place with little trouble or expense.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is The combination, with plate E, having journals F F, of the bearing-frame D G G, having lip H, and the front B having projecting flange to support the bearing-frame, and hooks by which to hang it to the wall, all as shown and described, for the purpose specified.
