EDWIN NETTEB, OF AURORA, OREGON.
GARBAGE-RESERVOIR.
Application filed June 2, 1913.
T (ZZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWIN NETTER, a citizen of Germany, residing at Aurora, in the county of Marion and State of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garbage-Reservoirs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in garbage reservoirs and its object is to produce a device of this class that is sanitary and at the same time convenient to use.
\Vith the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter fully described in the following specification, pointed out in the claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawing which forms a part of said specification and in which Figure 1 is a vertical section of my improved garbage receptacle in side elevation. Fig. 2 is a section taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout.
1 is a housing adapted to stand upon the ground and the same is provided near its base with pivoted doors 2, 2 and with openings 3, 3 in which oppositely disposed inclines l, 1 are secured that at one end are each provided with a spring 5 disposed in a vertical plane and adapted for contact, normally, with one end of a turntable 6 mounted upon a shaft 7 removably seated in suitable bearings in opposite sides of the housing 1 and extending through the apertured portion 3 in such sides. A sprocket wheel is carried by the shaft 7 and upon said wheel a chain 8 travels that also passes over a sprocket wheel 9 disposed upon a shaft 10 provided with a handle 11 and journaled in a suitable bearing 12 secured to a seat 13 provided with an opening 14:, one end of said seat resting upon a support 15 secured to the housing and the opposite end being relnovably secured to a beam 16 carried by one of two uprights 17, 17 erected upon opposite sides of said housing and spaced away therefrom. The space between either upright 17 and the adjacent side of the housing forms an areaway large enough to admit a person.
The housing 1 extends a considerable distance above the ground in order to convey Specification of Letters Fatent.

all odors arising therewithin a considerable distance into the upper air before liberating them. Air pipes 18 disposed in a horizontal plane are provided in the housing near its base and within said housing a couple of rectangular receptacles 19, 19 are disposed, the base of each resting upon the ground and the top thereof being disposed below the free extremity of the inclines 4. Each receptacle 19 is provided with a re movable cover 20 and with a pivoted door 21.
22 is a removable cover disposed upon the top of one of the uprights 17 and extending to the adjacent side of the housing 1.
Operation: Any refuse or garbage is introduced into the device through the opening 14 in the seat 13 when it falls upon the turntable 6 when by oscillating the handle 11' said turntable is caused to deposit the refuse into the receptacle 19; the spring 5 preventing oscillation of the turntable in the wrong direction as said spring normally engages the turntable as shown in Fig. 1. When the receptacle 19 is filled the seat 13 and turntable are removed to the other, side of the housing and there put in position directly opposite the position illustrated in the drawing. The cover 20 is then placed upon the receptacle l9. \Vhen the adjacent receptacle 19 is filled the seat 13 and turn table are again removed and the contents of both receptacles may now be emptied through the doors 21 by a person who may enter the areaways between the uprights 17 and the adjacent side of the housing after the door 2 in said housing has been opened. The draft caused by the air pipes 18 in the housing 1 causes any possible odor to escape through the top of said housing which is open and disposed a considerable distance above the base.
lVhat is claimed is In a garbage reservoir, a ventilated housing comprising apertured walls and provided with doors at its base, uprights adjacent opposite sides of said housing creating areaways between said uprights and housing, a removable apertured seat connecting one of said uprights with said housing, a turntable disposed in one apertured wall of said housing below said seat and adapted to receive matter in the plane of said seat and to deposit it outside the plane of said seat, flexible means disposed in said apertured wall below said turntable and normy own I have hereto affixed my signature mally in contlact tlllierewithdto prevent dits in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. rotation in ot er t an one irection an a garbage receptacle provided with a door and EDWIN NETTER' 5 disposed within said housing below said turntable.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as I Vitnesses:
HENRY L. BENTs, WEBB MOULDER.
