Description

March 10, 1925- 1,529,498
J.NovAK KNEE REST Filed July 5, 1923 `30 hereinafter more fully Patented Mar. 10, 1925.y
JERRY NOVAK, F SOUTH MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
KNEE BEST.
Application led .Tuly 5,
To all whom, it 'may concer/n- Be it known that I, JERRY zen of the United States of America, residing at South Milwaukee, in the county -of Milwaukee and State of lVisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Knee Rests, yof which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in knee rests and particularly to the type employed by persons in painting or scrubbing of floors, the rest vincluding a cushioned pad upon which a person kneels to relieve the knees of the usual. strain during the perfomance of such duties. i
A further object of the invention is to provide a knee rest especially designed for v use by floor scrubbers wherein a forwardly positioned splash board is so designed for cooperation with the bottom board of the rest to cause waterl splashing on the front board to be drained at the lower end thereof upon either side without falling upon the bottom board ofthe rest.
With the above and other objects in view as the nature of the invention isv better understood, the same consists of the novel form, combination and. arrangement of parts described, shown in the accompanying drawing and claimed.
In the drawing, wherein like `reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views,
Figure l is a perspective view of a kneerest constructed in accordance with the present invention showing the forward side wall of the frame structure of greater height than the end walls and being upwardly and forwardly curved to form a splash board,
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the rest, Figure 3 is a fragmentary front elevational view,
Figu
Novak, a citire 4 is a detail sectional view taken i on line IV-IV of Fig. 3 showing the longitudinally extendino' slots in the forward edge of the bottom oard and at the base of the forward splash board, and Figure 5 is a perspective view of another form of the invention.A y
Referring more in detail to the accompanying drawing, the knee rest embodies a bottom board 1, preferably rectangular in plan view mounted upon skids 2 suitably covering or bag 7 1923. Serial No. 649,654.
positioned upon the lower 'face thereof to provide a proper support therefor.
The bottom wall board l-carries perpendicular end walls 3 having hand -opening grips i, and a forwardly positioned splash board 5 with therear side .of the rest open to permita person to kneel upon the bottom board 1. The splash board 5 Vis of greater height than the end wall 3 and is upwardly and forwardly curved as at 51.* as clearly shown in Figs. l and 4. The forward edge of the bottom board l is longitudinally slotted as at 6 at the lower edge of the splash boa-rd 5 as shown in Fig. 4. A knee rest in the form of a cushion includes a water-proof filled with cushioning material 8, the opposite end of the cushion be- .ing secured as at 9 to the bottom board l as clearly shown in' Figs. 2 and 3.
In the use of the device, a' person kneels upon the cushion pad 7 and leans forwardly of the splash board 5 for washing a floor surface or performing similar duties. During the washing of a Hoor, @in different directions, and the elevated splash board 5 will materially reduce back splash of the water upon the knee pad 7 and also upon the person kneeling thereon. Should y any water splash over the upper curved edge 5a of the splash board, the same will drain downwardly upon the inner face thereof and fall through the slot 6 and return to the floor F without contacting the knee pad 7 or being thrown upon the person using the same.
Another form of the invention is shown in Fig. 5 'wherein the bottom board 1il supportsl a knee pad 7a and has end walls 3a and a forward Splash board 5d of equal height, this form of the invention .eliminating the drainslot 6 illustrated in Fig. 4 and also the upper 'curved edge 5a of the splash board. 5
While there are herein shown and describedthe preferred embodiments of the resent invention, it is nevertheless to beunderstood that minor changes may be made therein -without departing from the spirit and scop of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed as new isz- A knee rest for use in floor scrubbing com' prising a shallow tray having a bottom board, a front wall and end walls, said end walls being provided with hand holes and water will splash the front wall being secured to the end walls in spaced relation to the forward edge oi the. bottom to 5 said forward provide a slot. extending along edge, said front wall further extendingY above the side walls and having its upper portion curved forwardly, thin ids at the corners of the bottom beneath the same to hold the bottom raised and the slotted portion of the device clear of the Hoor, and a pad on said bottom board spaced from the side edges thereof and spaced from the front Welll to municating with the slot.
In testimony whereof I aix m s1 4 JERRY YTO eture.
