SCRUBBING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 28, 1922.
Application filed August 24, 1921. Serial No. 494,864.
T 0 all to how. it may concern:
Be it known that I, Gnonon A. BLANK, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, boroughof the Bronx, in the county of Bronx and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Scrubbing Device, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in scrubbing devices, and it pertains more particularly to a traveling platform upon which the operator may propel himself over the surface. being scrubbed.
It is one of the objects of the invention to construct a device of this character in such a manner that the operator when kneeling upon the same will experience no discomfort.
It is a further object ofthe invention to so construct a device of this character that ample water to carry out the scrubbing operation may be carried by the device.
It is a further object of the invention to so construct the device that it is provided with meansfor supporting brushes, soap, and other necessities for the scrubbing operation.
With the above and other objects-in view, reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a device constructed in accordance with the present invention;
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view there-. of taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the reference character 5 designates a platform formed of wood or other suitable material and said platform 5 is provided upon its under face with a plurality of supporting castors or rollers 6, and the platform 5 is cut out on its forward edge intermediate of its ends as indicated by the reference character 7. i
The platform 5 is padded or upholstered upon its upper face as indicated by the reference character 8 to provide a soft surface upon which the operator kneels during the scrubbing operation, this upholstered portion being divided by ridges or the like 9, which serve to form a central portion 10 at a point. substantially to the rear of the cutout portion 7 of the forward edge. The reference character 12 designates an upstanding flange formed of metal, and said flange defines the ends and the forward edge of the platform 5, as more clearly shown in Fig. 1.
Secured as at 13, to the flange 12, and curved in the opposite direction to the central portion thereof, is a strap member 14, and extending diametrically across the circular portion formed by the flange 12 and the strap member 14, is a supporting strap 15. Mounted within the circular structure formed by the flange 12 and the circular strap 14, isa receptacle 16, adapted to carry cleansing fluid of any desired nature, and removably carried by the upper edge of the receptacle 16, is a cover 17, provided with a downwardly and inwardly projected flange 18 to prevent splashing of the cleansing fluid during the course of travel of the device over the surface being operated upon.
Each of the end portions of the flange 12 is cut out as indicated by the reference characted 20, and the cut-out portion 21 is bent downwardly and provided with a slight upstanding flange 22 upon its outer edge. This structure provides a shelf at each end of the scrubbing device and said shelves are adapted to support scrubbing brushes, soap and other articles necessary to the scrubbing operation, as is also the central upholstered portlon 10 of the platform.
The device functions in the following manner: The operator kneels upon the device with his knees in the spaces designated by the reference character 8, it being understood, of course, that the receptacle 16 is first filled with suitable cleansing fluid. As sections of the surface operated upon have been completed, the device is moved upon its castors, by engagement of the operators hands with the surface to be cleaned, thus making the device readily portable over the surface without necessitating the operator rising from the operating position on the device. By reason of the forwardly and downwardly extending flange 18 of the cover 17 of the receptacle 16, the cleansing fluid within the receptacle 16 is prevented from splashing over the sides thereof during the operation of moving the device from place to place.
From the foregoing it is apparent that the present invention provides a device of this character which greatly facilitates the scrubbing of floors and the like, and contributes to the comfort of the operator during the scrubbing operation.
I claim:
A scrubbing device comprising a platform, upholstered kneeling portions formed on said platform, castors for-removably-sup- 5 porting said platform, a flange defining three edges of the platform, said flange be ing curved inwardly of the platform inter-
