SAMUEL SEGUR, 'OF ILION, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND EDWARD LOOKYER, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROV EMENT IN CLOTHES-DRIERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 152,919, dated July 14, 18 4; application filed March 5, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL Scene, of Ilion, Herkimer county, in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Briers; and I hereby declare the following to be a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification.
The nature or essence of my invention consists in the particular construction, combination, and arrangement of devices forming the improvements in clothes-driers described in the following specification and represented in the accompanying drawings.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of such parts of a clothes-drier as are necessary to show my improvements. Fig. 2 is a plan of the pivot and top of the standard. Fig. 3 is the under side of the rotating collar.
In the above-mentioned drawings, A is the top of a post to support the clothes-drier, provided with a pivot, B, and washer G, for the collar D to turn on. This collar D may be made in the form shown in the drawing, or in such other form as will answer the purpose, and fitted to turn freely on the pivot D. The collar D is provided with grooves E between the wings F, for the ends of the arms G and their sockets H to vibrate in on the pins I I, which pass through the wings, sockets, and arms. A swinging latch, J, is fastened to each socket or arm, and so adjusted as to catch into a notch, K, in the wing F, and lock the arm in an inclined position to dry the clothes and, by swinging the latch J over and turning the arm up perpendicular, the latch may he brought into the notch K, to lock the arm G in a perpendicular position, so that when the machine is not in use the arms may all be turned up perpendicular or parallel with each other, so as to occupy a very small space. The washer O is rigidly fastened to the post A, and provided with a latch, L, arranged to catch in notches N N in the under side of the collar D, (see Fig. 3,) and lock the collar in such position as may be desired, and keep it from turning. There is a lug on the end of the latch L, which catches behind the pin 1 in the washer, to hold the latch firmly in its notch, but by lifting the latch up over the pin and pulling it out of its notch the collar may be turned again and locked, as desired.
I claim- 1. In combination with collar D, provided with grooves K and notches E, the sockets H and pawls or latches J, as and for the purposes specified.
2. In combination with the rotating collar D, provided with notches N, the latch L, for
locking the collar, as described.
SAMUEL SEGUR.
