Description

R. TAYLOR MACHINE FOR COMBING COTTON AND OTHER FIBERS March 10, 1925.

ATTOR N EY;
Patented Mar. 10, 1925.
ROBERT TAYLOR, OF OLIDHAM, ENGLAND.
MACHINE FOR COMBING COT TON AND OTHER FIBERS.
Application filed February 26, 1924.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT TAYLOR, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Soho Iron Works, Oldham, in the county 5 of Lancaster, England, have invented new and useful Improvements in Machines for Combing Cotton and Other Fibers, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in 10 or relating to machines for combing cotton and other fibers and has for its object to provide improved means for adjusting the revolving clearer in such manner that the latter may be adjusted to its best working po- 5 sition according to the position of the top comb and leather detaching roller.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a plan of means for adjusting a clearer roller constructed according to the 0 present invention.
Figure 2 is an end elevation thereof and Figure 3 is a plan of part thereof.
Referring to the drawings-1 represents the revolving clearer roller, 2 represents the 25 ratchet wheel thereof, which if desired may be formed integral with the spindle 3 and at represents the pawl by which the ratchet wheel 2 is controlled.
5 represents arms or levers having bearings 5 at one end by which the same are adapted to be mounted or formed upon a shaft and to the free ends of said arms or levers 5 are pivotally connected arms 6 between which the clearer roller 1 is mounted 5 said arms 6 being supported and frictionally maintained in the position shown on cams or eccentrics 7 carried by studs 7 which are rotatably mounted in said arms or levers 5.
Serial No. 695,159.
On the studs 7 being rotated the cams 7 which lie and work within bearings 6 in the arms 6 also rotate and have a cam like or reciprocatory effect upon said arms 6 by which means the position of the clearer roller 1 may be adjusted within'the limits of the throw of the cam 7. The studs 7 are furnished with heads 7 by means of which they may be easily turned.
The position of the clearer rollers 1 may be fixed by means of set screws 8 which impinge upon the studs? and fix the same with the arms or levers 5.
It will be understood that the details of construction of the device ma v be modified without departing from the principle of the invention.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a combing machine, the combination of a pair of oppositely positioned arms, a clearer roller carried by said arms, cams mounted for rotation in said arms and means for rotating said cams to adjust the clearer roller.
2. In a combing machine, the combination of two sets of arms, oppositely positioned arms pivotally connected to the free ends of said first mentioned arms, a clearer roller carried by said second mentioned arms. studs rotatably mounted in said first mentioned arms, cams carried by said studs, and means for turning said studs and cams to adjust the clearer roller.
In testimony whereof- I have signed my name to this specification.
ROBERT TAYLOR.
