' r 'F. K. HABE-NICHT ANGLE cocx 1101mm Filed Aug 25, 1922 INVENTOR F. K. HABENICHT ATTORNEY Patented Mar. ,3, 1925.
UNITED f STATES FREDERICK K. HABENICHT, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR TO RAILWAY DEVICES COMPANY, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, A CORPORATION OF MISSOURI.
' ANGLE-COCK HOLDER.
Application filed August 25, 1922. Serial No. 584,233.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FREDERICK K. HARE- NIGHT, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at the city of St. Louis,
I State of Missouri, United States of America, have invented a certain new and useful Angle-Cock Holder, of which the following is such a full, clear, and exact description as will enable any one skilled in the 10 art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to a holder for angle 1 cocks and has for its object the production of a device which will support the train pipe, prevent the angle cock from turning, form a stop for limiting the forward move ment of the angle cock and also provides 20 longitudinal adjustment for positioning the angle cock with respect to the front end of the car to which it is attached.
In the accompanying drawings which illustrate one form of holder made in ac- 2 cordance with my invention, Figure 1, is a side view showing the angle cock in position, Figure 2 is a front view, the angle cock being omitted and Figure 3 is a top view of the parts shown in Figure 2.
5 indicates a portion of the end of a railway car to which my holder is applied. The body of the holder consists of an angle plate comprising a horizontal web 6 and a vertical web 7 the former being secured to the bottom of the car by any sultable means (not shown). The vertical web 7 is provided with an opening 8 through which the train pipe 9 passes and which forms a support for said pipe. 10 is the angle cock which is carried on the end of the train pipe 9 by the latter being threaded into the usual hexagonal head 11. The angle cook 10 is provided with the usual cap nut 12. A U-bolt 13 is provided with threaded arms 14 passing through holes adjacent to the train pipe opening 8 and engaging with nuts 15 by means of which the U-bolt may be adjusted longitudinally to position the angle cock relative to the face of the car. The front end of the U-bolt is bent downwardly, as shown in Figure 1, so as to engage the angle cock forward of the cap nut 12. The U-bolt 13 is so positioned, as shown in Figure 2, as to hold the angle cock at the proper inclination to the vertical and the web is preferably inclined, as also shown in this figure, so as to stand square with the U-bolt.
. Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. In a device of the class described, a support adapted to be secured to a car, a holder comprising a loop engaging with the angle cock forward of its body portion, a pair of rearwardly extending arms passing through said support, and adjustable means on the arms and cooperating with the support, whereby the location of the angle cock may be varied in the direction of the length of the train pipe by the movement of said means along the arms.
2. In a device of the class described, a support adapted to be secured to a car and including a vertical web, a holder comprising a loop engaging with the angle cock forward of its body portion, and a pair of rearwardly extending arms passing through said Web and nuts on said arms whereby the location of the angle cock may be varied with respect to the web.
3. In a device of the class described, a member adapted to be secured to a car, a forwardly projecting U-bolt carried by said member, said U-bolt being inclined downwardly toengage with the angle cock between the nozzle and cap nut.
4. In a device of the class described, a
member adapted to be secured to a car, and a longitudinally adjustable U-bolt carried by said member, said U-bolt having its forward end inclined downwardly to engage with the angle cock between the nozzle and cap nut.
5. In a deviceof the class described, a plate adapted to be secured to a car and projecting downwardly at an angle to a vertical plane, said plate being provided with an opening forming a support for the train pipe, and a U-bolt removably secured to said plate with its arms engaging the angle cock to prevent rotation, the forward end of said U-bolt being inclined downwardly to engage with theangle cock be tween the cap nut and nozzle.
6. In a device of the class described, an angle plate adapted to be secured to the under face of a car, one web'of said angle plate projecting downwardly at an angle to a vertical plane, said plate being provided with an opening forming a support for the train pipe, and a U-bolt removably secured to said plate with its arms engaging the angle cock to prevent rotation, the forward end of said U-bolt being inclined downwardly toengagewvitli the angle cock between its cap nut and nozzle.
7 In a device of the class described, an angle plate adapted to be secured to the under face of a car, one web of said angle plate projecting downwardly, said plate being provided with an opening forming a support for the train pipe, a U-bolt removably secured to said plate with its arms engaging the angle cock to prevent rotation, the forward end of said 'U-b'olt-being .inclined downwardly toengage with the angle cock, and means for adjusting said U-bolt longitudinally.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set 20 my hand and aflixed my seal.
FREDERICK K. HABENIOHT.
