Be it known that I, OTHo M. O'I'rE, a citizen of the United States, and 'a resident of Tarentum, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have made a new and useful Invention in Clothes Wringers, of which the following is a specification. f
This invention relates to clothesl wringers and an object thereof is to produce an improved clothes wringer in which the liability` to crush buttons or tear the same from clothes is reduced to a minimum. l
This, as well as other objects which will readily appear to those skilled in this particular art, I attain by means of the device described in the specification and illustrated in the drawings accompanying and forming part of this application.
In the drawings, Figures 1 and 2 are views in side sectional elevation taken through the center of a wringer embodying this invention. In Fig. 1, the compression rolls ofthe wringer are shown in operative position and the endless conveyor belt is shown under tension. In Fig. 2, the compression rolls have been slacked and the tension on the conveyor belt has been reduced.
The wringer comprises end posts 3, only one of which is shown and within suitable bearings slidable within slots 4 in the end posts compression rolls 5 and 6 are mounted and geared together in the usual manner (the gearing not being shown in the drawings). Compression roll 5 is preferably formed from cast iron and trued to present a relatively smooth surface. Compression roll 6 is larger in diameter than roll 5 and having a core formed of any suitable material, is covered with a relatively thick, soft rubber covering.
An endless conveyor belt 7 preferably Jformed of soft rubber, surrounds compression roll 5 and idler rollers 8 and 9 mounted for rotation in support arms 10-10. The
compression rolls co-operating with soft rubber roll 6 aiords the required elasticity for wringing.
The .roll compression is obtained by means of a spring 11 carried by a follower bar 12 and adjustment screws 13-13, only one of -which is shown. Each adjustment screw,
by means oftwo collars 14 and 15 carries a support head 16 which at its center is drilled to loosely receive the adjustment screw. The depending sides 16a of the supi port head are provided with two horizontally extending slots 17--17 and within each of these, a horizontal pin 18 is held by means of Cotter pins 19. The upper end of each roller support arm 10 is provided with a vertically elongated slot 20 and pin 18 lies within this slot.
Adjustment screw 13 is provided with a handle 21 and support arms' 10 are channeled as shown at 22 to receive a dowel pin 23 secured to the end posts. The side faces of the end posts against which support arms 10 are held by means of conveyor belt 7 are generally inclined as shown in the drawings and provided with corrugations adapted to cooperate with reverse corrugations formed on the adjacent faces of the support arms. These corrugations tend to hold the support arms in adjusted position.
