It is well known that normal deterioration in the textile content of fabric tires is largely due to the friction between the weft threads and that this cause of deterioration may be decreased by using so-called cord fabric (fabric having but very light weft v threads) and eliminated by employing a textile content having no weft threads whatsoever. In forming tires of such a textile content it is still convenient to use the textile content in the f0rm of strips of nibberized' textile material and accordingly convenience, in building requires the development of a method of rubberizing a sheet of separate cords; My invention re-- lates to such rubberizing. In the drawings accompanying this specification and form- 16 a part thereof I have shown,-for purposes of illustration, one form which my invention may assume. In these drawings:

The calender 11 herein shown comprises a frame '12, upper roll 13, center roll 14, and lower roll 15. The rubber is fed into-the bi ght of the rolls 13 and 14 to form the bank 16 and be sheeted out onto the roller 14: as a sheetl? which is carried by the roller 14 info he bight of the rollers 11 and where it joins the sheet 18 of individual unr'ubberized cords and with it forms thesiieet 19 of united rubberized cords.
In such a process considerable pressure. is imposed upon the sheets 17 and 18 as they pass between the rollers 14 and 15 and this pressure tends to force apart the cords of the sheet 18 to thus reduce the number 0 cords per unit of width. I find, that this action may be overcome by laterally supporting the cords as they pass between the rolls 1 1 and 15 and that the cords may be conveniently supported b grooving one of ""thd i'olls .14: and 15, pre erably the roll 15 which is in direct contact with the sheet 18.

3. A calender for rubberizing a sheet of cords, comprising, a pairof rolls adapted to form a sheet of rubber upon one roll of the pair, a third calender roll positioned in calendering relation to the latter 'roll and havfing grooves formed in its surface adapted to position and laterally support the individual cords as the cord sheet is subjected to pres sure between the last named rolls to rubberize the cordsheet.
