Nap, raising and dressing.-Iu order to produce a velvet-like finish on warp-knitted cotton fabrics, the fabric a from a roller 1 is passed between adjustable tension rods 4, 5 and alternately under adjustable scrimp rollers 6 and over emery-covered rollers 13 to a smooth roller 19, which may be heated, and a positively-driven emery-covered roller 20 by which the fabric is drawn through the machine. The scrimp rollers, except the first and the last, are mounted on arms 25 of adjustable frames 26, so that the extent of the surface of the emery-covered rollers in contact with the fabric may be varied. The scrimp rollers may be raised above the emery-covered rollers to facilitate the introduction of the fabric into the machine.
