IMPROVEMENT IN SCAFFOLDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 152,51 l, dated June 30, 1874; application filed March 2, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY PICKETT, of Akron, in the county of Summit and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plastering-Scaffolds, of which the following is a specification The nature of my invention relates to an improvement in scaffolds 5 and it consists in the arrangement and combination of the parts, which will be more fully described hereafter, whereby a cheap,` portable, and adjustable scaffold for plasterers and carpenters use is produced.

t represent a number of posts, slotted vertically nearly their entire length, and which may be made, if so desired, in two or more sections, hinged or otherwise connected together, so that their length can be accommodated to high or low ceilings. Each post is provided with a tripod-shaped arrangement ot' legs, c, each of which is provided with a `caster, d, so that the scaffold can be readily moved about the room. The width of the fra-me on which the scaffold is built is kept uniform, and the frame braced securelyT together by the braces e, which extend from post to post at the ends of the frame. Each pair of posts is connected together by a horizontal beam, g, which can be adjusted freely up and down, so as to regulate the height ofthe scaffold, the ends of the beams being guided in grooves made in the inner sides of the posts,
as shown by dotted lines. These beams are secured in any desired position by means of the screw-bolts h, (shown in dotted 1ines,) which pass through the clamping-plates through the slots in the posts, into the ends ofthe beams, the bolts being provided with the hand-cranksj on their outer ends, so that they can be readily loosened and fastened. Clasping the inner and outer edges of each post is a clamping-plate, o, through which passes a.
tightening-bolt, n, which secure the plates rmly in any desired position. By moving these plates up so that the under side of the beams will rest upon the inner ones, and then securing them in position, all danger of the beams giving way under the Weight upon them is avoided. By means of a pin or safe-lock, p, Fig. 2, and any suitable connecting-piece, the scaffold may be attached to the oor or other convenient iixture, so as to prevent any movement ot' the scaffold While the workmen are engaged in plastering or climbing up or down the scafold as may be necessary.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- 1. The combination ot' the\screwbolts h n, plates 'o, and beams g, substantially as described.
