Description
UNITED STATES PATENT GEEIoE7 LUOIUS W. MOSES, OF INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT lN HORSE-BOOTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 152,505, dated June 30, 1874; application filed March 10, 1874.
To all whom Iit may concern:
Be it known that I, LUCIUs W. MosEs, of Indianapolis7 in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented certain Ilnprovements in Toe Weights for Trottin g- Horses, of which the following is a specifica` tion:
The object of Iny invention is to provide a fastening by which the toe-weights in ordinary use may be more readily and perfectly adjusted and secured to the horses foot than the bucklefastenin gs at present in use, by arranging ears or lugs C C on the ends` ofthe straps B B that encircle the foot, and through which is passed a screw-bolt, D, furnished with a square head to receive a key similar to a common clock-key, by which the screw may be easily turned to properly adjust the toe-weight A to the foot, as shown in the side and front views, Figs. 1 and 2, of the accompanying drawing. The
screw D passes freelythrough one of the lugs C, and the other lug forms a nut to receive the screw.
This device for securing1 and adjusting the apparatus to the horses foot is designed to take the place of the buckle-fastening in ordinary use 5 and its advantages are obvious, as it can be adjusted with so much greater pre cision and ease.
If desired, the fastening may be placed at the side of the foot.
I claim as my invention- The'combination, in a toe-weight, substantially as described, of the screw D and lugs O O with the straps B, for securing and adjusting the toe-weight to the horses foot.
LUCIUS W. MOSES.
IVit-nesses:
O. F. MAYHEW, C. L. CALVERT.
