UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANDERS H. NESHEIM, 0F MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN, ASSIGNOR, BY MESNE ASSIGN- v MENTS, TO FEDERAL STEEL SASI-I COMPANY, 0F WAUKESI-IA, WISCONSIN, A COR- PORATION or Wisconsin.Vr
WINDOW.
'T0 all 'whom t may concern:k Y'
' Be it known that I, ANDERS H. NESHEIM, a citizen ofthe United States, and resident of `l\/Iilwaukee, inthe county offMilwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Windows, of which thefollowing is a description, reference 'being had to the accompanying drawings', which are a part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in windows.
One of the objects of the invention is to provide a window of simple and strong construction, the frame and sash of which are preferably formed of commercial or stock material welded or otherwise secured together, and which will be economical to manufacture.
-A 'further object of the invention is to provide novel means'whereby the Sash 'may' be readily swung into any one of several oblique positions.
A more specific object of the invention is to provide a frame including a pair of upright members having adjacent one edge thereof inturned flanges which flanges are transversely slotted preferablyI medially so as to provide a pair vof bearings thereon, in combination with a(l window sash'uhaving outwardly extending flanges adapted to be inserted into saidslots, the window sash having transverselyr extending bearings, pref- 'erably in the forni of an angle bar, adapted tocooperate with said first mentioned bearings whereby the sash maybe swung relative to the frame, the upright niembersad; jacent their other edge, preferably 'also having inturned flange disposed opposite the lower portion of the first mentioned inturned flanges, thus providing stop nie1nbers both at the top and bottom of the frame forthe swinging sash. Y
A further object of the'V invention is to f provide novel means for locking the sash in open position.
A further object of the invention is `to provide novel means for locking the Sash in closed position, the means for locking the sash when in open and closed positions preferably includes. a locking bar universally pivoted to the sash which is adapted to engage a suitable keeper attached to the frame when the sash is in open position and which is also adapted vto engage another kkeeper when the sash is in closed position,
thereby locking the sash either in open or closed position, as may be desired.
Phe invention consists in the novel consti'uctions, arrangements and devices to be line 3-3 of/Fig. 1, the sash, however, being 'in open position Fig. 4 is a sectional view, on 'an enlarged scale, taken on the line 4 4 of Fig. 2; and Fig. 5 is a sectional view, on a reduced scale, taken on the line 5-5 of Fig. 4. Like characters of lreference designate like parts inthe several views.
Referring nowto the drawings, the window frame includes a pair of upright members 7 secured at the bottom to a sill meinber 8 and at' the top toi a. cross member 'having a downwardly extending flange 9, all said members 'preferably being of commercial or stock material welded or otherwise secured together to form a rigid frame. The upright members 7 are provided with inturned'flanges 10, which flanges have transversely extending slots 11 to provide a 'pair of aligned bearings in the form of that the upper portions of the flanges 16 will be behind the respective flanges 1() ofv the frame members 7 and the lower portions of said flanges 16 `will be in front ofl the respective .flanges 10 when the sash is operatively positioned in the frame. The sash `monly Iemployed -for I that purpose.
