Description

Jan. 1925. 1,524,440
- H. LANGES I GARMENT" SUSPENDER Filed Marpl 19, 1921 Patented Jan. 27, 1925.
UNITED STATES HUBERT LANGES, OF WURTTELMBERG, GERMANY.
GARMENT SUSPENDER.
Application filed March 19, 1921. Serial No. 453,861.
(GRANTED UNDER THE- PROVISIONS OF THE ACT OF MARCH 3, 1921, 41 STAT. L., 1313.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HUBERT LANGES, a citizen of the German Empire, residing at Schwab Gmund, Wurttemberg, Germany,
have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment Suspenders (for which I have filed application in Germany, July 1a, 191%, Patent No. 350,208) of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved garment suspender designed to be substituted for the suspenders used at present.
The improved suspender is constructed in such a. manner that the suspender proper such as a strip or a chain can be easily replaced by a fresh suspender. Any person can remove the old suspender and insert a new suspender without any difficulty. With this object in view the strip or chain has at its ends cross pieces adapted to be inserted in guide pieces fixed to the garment to be suspended. The cross pieces are retalned in position by springs so that, to remove the suspender from the garment, the resistance 5 of the springs has first to be overcome. The cross pieces can be elastic or consist of springs but they can also 'be rigid and secured in position by elastic means.
In order that the invention may be clearly understood, I shall proceed to describe the same with reference to the two forms of construction shown in the accompanying drawings by way of example, wherein Fig. 1 is a front elevation of the improved garment suspender.
Fig. 2 shows, on a larger scale, in front elevation the device for attaching the suspender to the garment.
Figs. 3 and a are longitudinal sections showing the attaching device in the closed and open position respectively.
F i gs. 5 and 6 are a plan view and side elevation representing another form of construction of the garment suspender.
The improved su'spender consists of a cross piece a with an eye or rib b to which the chain or strip 0 is to be fixed. The cross piece or cross head a as well as the eye or ring are made from wire. According to the form of construction shown in Figs. 1 to 4 the ring 7) is formed by bending the wire to a corresponding shape, the cross piece a being formed by twisting the ends of the wire around each other and bending their free ends at right angles and in opposite directions. In the garment a plate (Z is sewn at the proper place, this plate d has a slot 6 into which the ends of the cross piece a are inserted so that they engage behind shoulders f of said plate d which are preferably obtained by means of stamping (Figs. 2 and A spring 9, fixed at the lower end to the plate d bears against the inner surface of said plate (Z and looks with its free end the opening 6 so that the cross piece a, after having been inserted, cannot be removed until the blade spring 9 is pushed back. This can be effected by exerting a pressure upon a stud it of said blade spring 9 which projects from the outer surface of the plate d (Fig. 4).
According to the form of construction shown in Figs. 5 and 6 the strip or chain c is attached by means of a U-shaped how a of wire or other convenient material, the free ends of which are bent at right angles. The tl-shaped attaching piece a is elastic and its free ends are designed to engage with eyes f of the plate d, said eyes corresponding with the shoulders 7 described with reference to the first form of construction. The shape of the attachment piece and the shape of the plate in which said piece is inserted can vary according to requirement.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is:
1. A garment suspender, comprising a pair of plates adapted to be secured to agarment, each plate having an outwardly pressed portion forming a shoulder and a slot formed in said portion, spring members having one end secured to the plates and the other end extending in and normally closing the major portion of the slot, a. pair of ring members formed with cross heads, one ring member being adapted to cooperate with one plate, the cross head thereof being adapted to be inserted through the slot in the plate in one position thereof when the spring is depressed and adapted to engage the shoul der of the plate for fastening cooperation therewith, the spring normally preventing removal of the cross head, and a suspemler element oining the two rings.
2. A garment suspender, comprising a. pair of plates adapted to be secured to a pair of plates formed "with shdufdels and adapted to' be securedto'agfi-inient, a
MI of members adapted to engage the shoul ers on the plates for. fastening cooperation therewith, a suspender element connecting 15 said members, and means acting normall to prevent the disengagement of the mem ers from the plates.
In testimony whereof I aifix my si nature.
