' W. H. SAVERY CONTAINER Original Filed May 20, 1921 V INVENTOR ATTORNEY Patented Jan. 13, 1925.
WALTER H. SAVERY,
OE CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
CGNTAINER.
Application filed May 20, 1921, Serial No. 471,207. Eenewed January 10, 1923.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I. VVALTER H. SAvnRY, a citizen of the United States. residing at Chicago. in the county of-Cook and State of Illinois. have invented new and useful improvements in Containers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to containers and an object of the invention is to provide a container designed principally for use by motorists and one which will contain a quantity of detergent liquid or material and towels.
It is a well known fact that a motorist frequently has to work upon the machine when away from home or garage and consequently soils his hands and great inconvenience is experienced owing to the failure to have sutlicient means convenient for cleaning or washing his hands and it is an object of this invention to provide a device which can be conveniently carried about by motorists and which is designed to provide an inner fluid tight compartment adapted to contain a suitable liquid detergent which may be used without Water for removing dirt, rease, oil or all foreign matter from the hands of the user and also to provide containing compartment for towels which circles the liquid container and from which towels may be drawn as needed.
A further object of this invention is to provide a device as specified which is simple in construction and may be manufactured at a relatively low cost as well as one which embodies, in connection with a removable cover, a brace adapted to increase the rigidity of the towel container.
Other objects of the invent-ion will appear in the following detailed description and in the accompanying drawing wherein:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the improved container,
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section through the container taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a cross section through the container taken on the line 33 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 1 is an enlarged detail section taken on the line 4: 4: of Fig. 3.
Referring more particularly to the drawing the improved container comprises an end 1 which is provided with spaced annular flanges 2 and 3 adjacent its perimeter between which one end of the substantially cylindrical casing a engages. The substan- D them from the container.
It is to be understood that the container 4 is adapted particularly for containing pa per towels of any approved type which may be destroyed after use. A guide strip 6 extends the length of the body 4 in close proximity to the slit and the towels A are passed beneath this strip which also serves as an abutment against which the towel impinges when it is desired to tear otf any desired length of towelling.
A removable cover 8 is mounted upon the end of the container 1 remote from the end 1 and it is held against accidental removal from the container by means of interlocking outstruck portions or knobs 9. A brace 10 secured to the cover 8 in any suitable manner such as by means of the outturned flanges 11 and solder, and the brace is of substantially the same thickness as the width of the slit 5. An ear 12 is formed upon the brace which projects through the slit and lends rigidity to the towel receivingend of the casing at, preventing accidental constricting of the diameter of the easing which would result in insecure connection between the casing 4 and cover 8.
An annular flange let is formed on the in ner surface of the end 1 inwardly of the flanges 2 and 3 and it has one end of the liquid container 15 attached thereto in fluid tight connection. The fluid container 15 is cylindrical in shape and forms a core upon which the towelling A is wound. The cover 8 is provided with a central opening 16 through which the liquid container 15 extends and the liquid container, fitting snugly in the opening 16 is braced by the cover to prevent vibratory movement thereof within the casing 4:. The end 17 of the container 15, which end projects through the opening 16. is constricted as shown at 18 and provided with an opening 19 to permit the filling of the container 15 with any approved type of detergent preferably a type which can be used without the use of water. A. closure cap 20 is threadably mounted upon the constricted portion 18 of the container 15 and it is provided with a relative ly small dispensing opening 21 through which the detergent liquid may be disposed. A second closure cap 22 is threadable upon the closure cap and it forms a closure for the opening 21. The threads of the caps 20 and 22 are preferably opposite, that is the internal threads of the cap 20 are left handed While the internal threads of the cap 22 are right handed. therefore, when the cap 22 is unscrewed from the cap 21 the latter will be tightened upon the constricted end 18 of the container 15, which will prevent the unitary removal of the two caps and will allow the proper functioning of the liquid dispensing cap 20.
It is, of course, to be understood that the invention may be constructed in various; other manners and the parts associated in =liffercnt relations and, therefore, I do not desire to be limited in any manner except as set forth in the claims hereunto appended.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is:
1. In a container, an outer casing provided with a longitudinal slit, a removable cover therefor, a brace attached to said cover, an ear formed. upon said brace and extending into said slit, said ear being substantially the same width as the slit.
2. In a container, an outer casing provided With a longitudinal slit, a removable cover therefor, a brace attached to said cover, an ear formed upon said brace and extending into said slit, said ear being'substantially the same width as the slit, a fluid container disposed axially within said casing and extending longitudinally therethrough said removable cover provided with an opening through which said fluid container extends.
3. In a container, an outer casing provided with a longitudinal slit, a removable cover therefor, a brace attached to said cover, an earformed upon said brace and extending into said slit, said ear being substantially the same width as the slit, a fluid container disposed axially within said casing and extending longitudinally therethrough said removable cover provided with an opening through which said fluid container extends, a dispensing closure cap mounted on the outer end of said fluid container, and a second closure cap removably mounted over said dispensing closure cap.
4. In a container, an outer casing having a longitudinal slit, a removable cover for one end of said container, a brace attached to the ,cover, and an ear formed upon the brace and extending into the slit.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
" WALTER H. SAVERY.
