To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, LEONARD FRIEDBERG, a citizen of Austria, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Bronx, in the county of Bronx and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Powder Puff, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to a powder puff, and has for an object the provision of simple and eflicient means whereby a powder puff, preferably made of lambs wool or similar material is formed as a container for the powder held therewithin which is gradually sifted through to the surface of the wool on to the face as the puff is manipulated.

Another object concerns the provisions of means whereby the powder can be readily inserted and yet the closure through which the powder is inserted can be very easily opened and very firmly closed when not A further object concerns the provision of simple and efiicient means whereby the pufl is provided with a portion which is adapted to be gripped in the hand for the purpose of rendering the manipulation of the puff much more effective.

In its general aspect the invention comprises a hollow container of fabric one portion of which is preferably made of fibrous material such as lambs wool, this body portion or container having a preferably integral extension or flap connected thereto. The preferred form of the invention, as shown in the drawings, comprises a powder puff having a substantially circular body portion to which is integrally connected a flap portion. This powder puff is formed by sewing or otherwise connecting layers of material together along their peripheral edges to form a container. These two layers of material are represented in the drawings by the numerals 1 and 2, 1 representing a layer of material, preferably lambs wool, and the other layer 2 will be some fabric such as soft leather or felt or any other suitable material. These layers are. sewed together, as at 3, along their peripheral edges except at the free end of the flap, where they are unconnected. This opening is provided to permit powder to be inserted between the layers, whereby the layers will act as a container for the powder. It is found that lambs wool is so constructed that powder, as the pufi is manipulated, will sift through the wool to the surfacethereof whereby it can be efficiently applied to the face in any needed quantities.

I provide a snap member 4 on the upper portion of the fiap forming part of the layer 2 and mount this snap on the free end of the flap. I also provide a snapv member 5 on the layer. 1 at a point near the lower end of the flap portion of such layer. When the device-is to be used the two layers at the free end of the flap portion are held apart and powder is inserted, then the two layers are brought together at this point and the flap is rolled on itself until the snap member 4 in rolling around is adapted to be engaged with the snap member 5, as shown in Fig. 4, in which position it is quite evident that the opening is effectively closed and the roll of the flap will form an enlarged portion which affords a simple and efiicient grip for the hand of the person using the powder puff, whereby the manipulation of it is rendered more simple and efficient.

Itis thus obvious that a simple and eflicient container for powder is provided whereby the powder will siftthrough one wall to the surface thereof in a uniform and efficient manner. The powder can be inserted very readily and the opening closed very layers of material connected together along their peripheral edges, an integral flap extension on each layer, said flap extensions connected together along their peripheral edges except at one end where an opening is formed, one of said layers being formed of material through which powder inserted between the layers will sift, the flap portions adapted to roll on themselves to close the opening, and means for maintaining the flaps in their rolled position whereby they serve as a grip for the hand of the person using the pufifi.

2. A powder puff, which comprises a pair of layers of material eachhaving a substantially circular body portion and an integral flap portion, said layers connected together along their peripheral edges except at the outer end of each flap portion whereby powder can be inserted between the layers, a snap fastening device disposed on the upper end of one of said flaps, a snap fastener disposed on the lower end of the other of said flaps whereby when the flaps are rolled on themselves the snap fastening devices come into engagement to hold the flaps in their rolled position whereby the opening is closed and the rolled portion provides a grip for the hand of the person using the puff.
