EDYVARD VILKINS, OF CHESTERTOVN, MARYLAND.
IMPROVEMENT IN FRUIT-BOXES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 152,205, dated June 1G, 1874; application filed March 16, 1874.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD. WILKrNs, of Chestertown, in the county of Kent and State of Maryland, have invented a new and Improved Fruit-Box; and Ido hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing` forming a part of this specification, in which the figure is a perspective View broken out.
The invention relates to modes of constructing fruit-boxes so that they will be sufliciently strong and durable to bear the jars and jolts of transportation, the weight of the fruit, and the various manipulations through which they must necessarily pass, but at the same time be sufficiently cheap to admit of their transfer to the consumer with the fruit, and without extra charge.
The invention will rst be fully described in connection with al1 that is necessary to a full understanding thereof, and then pointed out in the claim.
A represents a fruit-box, of any suitable dimensions, and any desired shape consistent with rounded outlines. I take a log ofthe ,f guln-tree7 or any other kind of wood that may be preferred, and from this saw or otherwise excise a continuous veneer sheet, al.' Having thus described my invention, what I claim is The fruit-box herein described, having the sides and bottom formed ot' one sheet of veneer, bent around and fastened to the roundcornered heads a2 a2, with the strip a1 applied to the top, as shown, to form a cover, as and for the purposes set forth.
