GAS BURNER.
Application led. December 1S, i923. Serial No. si.
'1'5 description, said means being of such con- .struction as to prevent the waste of fuel andtoV insure the utilization of a maximum amount of heat units from a given amount of fuel. l 2o @ther objects and advantages will beapparent and suggest themselves as the nature l of the invention 'is understood. I While the drawings illustrate an embodil-mentof the invention it is to be understood p 25 that in adapting the same to moet diderent conditionsand requirements, various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of f construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the accompanying drawings forming a part of the application:
Figure 1 1s an elevational 'view of a burner embpdying the invention, p
Figure 2 is a vertical central longitudinal section thereof, and
F igure' is a sectional `View on the line 3 3 of Figure l, looking to the right as designated by the arrows. 4 Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and designated in the several views of the drawings by like reference characters.
The numeral l designates`l a header or manifold which is closed at one end by means of a ca 2 and at its opposite end by a cap 3 in w ich is formed an opening aud having an internally threaded boss 4 in line with the opening to which a pipe (not shown) may be coupled for supplying fuel v50 to the burner. A lurality of nipples 5 are I threaded into a si e of the header 1 and are el in` furnaces, stoves and heaters of every gaseous fuel issuing from the outlets 3.,
preferably in' iine and regularly spacedu Burner tubes 6 are threaded to the projecting ends of the nipples 5 and are provided in their sides with openings for the adniis- 5a sion of air to mii; with the iets of gas issu ing from small openings 8 formed in plates 9 disposed within the tubes at a point bei low thel air inlets 7. The burner tubes (i may be of any preferred construction and @Si material and the plates Srnay be provided in any manner common in the A. shield 10 is disposed above the header 1 and is preferably mounted' upon burner tubes d, the upper portion of the latter being @il duced to provide shoulders il which and support the shield l0, the latter beings provided with openings of size and in po; sition to register with the up er reduced of the burner tubes. li. bridle l? opposite edge portions of the shield passes beneath the header l and prevent displacement of the shield, While ad." mitting of the 'sume being readily removed when required. The shield preferably een sists of metal and is transversely curved operates to prevent the liest from the danse interfering with the proper .ingress of 'air through the openings "i so as to min with the It will be understood from the foregoing' that the burner is simple in construction and may be of an required length and may beA readily instal ed in the furnace of a heat4 ing plant or in the irebox of a cooking stove or heater.
What is claimed is:
1. A burnerfor gaseous fuel comprising a header, burner tubes at intervals in the length of the header, each burner tube having an air inlet opening on each side and a plate provided with a minute fuel outlet and located in the tube below the air inlet openings, a connection below each plate between the burner tubes and header, and a shield es supported by ,the burner tubes and disposed between the outlets thereof und `the air inlet openings.
2. A burner for gaseous fuel comnrisin a; header, nipples let into openings ieri-neg Re@ in a. side of the header, burner tubes fitted to the nipples and having air inlet openings in their sides, each tube having a plate with In testimony whereof I affix my signature a minute fuel outlet between each nipple and in presence o two witnesses. saidv air inlet openings, the burner tubes K z' f V having their outer ends reduced, and a shield JOHN "'WHIKEHART. Y `i mounted upon the reduced ends of the burner Witnesses ltubes and supported by the shoulders formed LOUIS H. GREEN, atthe inner ends ofthe'ieduced portions. t J M. DoNAHoE.
