Be it known that I, RUFUS M. STONE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oklahoma City, in the county 'of Oklahoma and State of Oklahoma, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hydrocarbon Burners, of which the following is aspecification.
My present invention pertains to hydrocarbon burners for cooking and heating use; and it consists in the peculiar and ad vantageous burner hereinafter described and definitely claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specificationz Figure 1 is a side elevation of my novel burner.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the same partly in section with the oil inlet pipe in elevation.
Figure 3 is a diametrical section of the burner, taken in the plane indicated by the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Similar numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all of the views of the drawings.
Among other elements my novel burner comprises an annular member 1 of troughtype which when desired may be disposed on the grate bars at the bottom of a fire box in a stove. The said annular member 1 is provided at 2 with. an inwardly reaching flange and is also provided at 3 with an outwardly extending arm in which is an aperture 1.
In addition to the annular member 1 the burner comprises an intermediate member 5. The said intermediate member 5 is made up of a circular body which is concave-convex and is arranged with its convex side uppermost. On the said convex upper side of the member 5 is a central upstanding teat 6, and ribs 7 which extend from the base of the said teat 6 to the periphery of the body as illustrated. At its underside the body of the intermediate member 5 is provided with supporting legs 8, designed to rest on the flanged portion 2 of the annular member 1 and provided with depend ing reduced portions 9 adapted to rest within and against the said flanged portion 2 so as to preclude casual displacement of the intermediate member 5 without interfering in any measure with the facility 1924. with which the said member 5 may be disassociated from the member 1 when neces sary. It will also be noticed that by virtue of the legs 8 the body of the intermediate member will be maintained in spaced relation to the upper side of the annular memher 1 so that openings between the legs 8 will be afforded intermediate of the body of the member 5 and the upper side of the member 1 as appears in Figures 1 and 3.
Associated with the annular or base memher 1 and the intermediate member 5 is a crown member 9, and at this pointT would have it understood that all three of the members 1 5 and 9 referred to are preferably of cast iron. The crown member 9 is of general concavo-conveX shape and is provided with a marginal pendent flange 10 at the inner side of which is a shoulder 11 which rests on the ribs 7 of the member 5' and therebyaifords a space 12 between the member 5 and the crown member 9. In the center of its underside the crown member 9 is chambered at 13 to accommodate the teat 6 of the intermediate member 5, the/wall of the said chamber 13 being spaced from the teat 6 as clearly appears in Figure 3. Extending upwardly from the chamber 13 is a threaded bore 1a in an upstanding boss The said bore 1 1 is for the reception and connection of the pendent portion of an elbow 16 which together with pipe sections 17 and 18 and another elbow 19 constitutes the generator of the burner, the said elbows and pipe sections being preferably of iron. At the lower end of the pipe section 13 is a union 20 which rests on the arm 3 of the a nnular base member 1 and serves for the connection of an a oro Jriate bushin 21 utilized in the connection of an oil or hydrocarbon line 22, which preferably extends through the grate before referred to and out of the ash door where it may be equpped with a control valve (not illustrated). The hydrocarbon is in the said generator converted into vapor by the flame coming in contact with the upright portion of the generator which stands full of hydrocarbon, and hence carbonization is prevented. The heated vapor or gas is lead over the members 1, 5 and 9 of tee burner into the space 12 between the intermediate member 5 and the crown member 9, the hydrocarbon or gas being confined between the members 5 and 9, and the oil or gas being released at the edges of the members 5 and 9 where the hydrocarbon or ;-gas willcome in contact with'theiflame. The crown member9 fits snugly so that when the burner isheated, said crown member: 9 completes the generation of the hydrocarbon into dry gas conducive to a smokeless flame of high heat quality.
