PAGLJ LONGAIQ'ESI, O1? BOLGGNA, ITALY.
PUFF-PASTE ROLLER.
Application filed August 4', 1924. Serial No.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PAOLO LoNoANnsI, subject of the King of Italy, residing at 28 Via tianto Stefano, Bologna, in the Kingdom of Italy, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Puff-Paste Rollers (for which I have filed an application in Italy, on July 28, 1923), of which the following is a specification.
The present invention has for object, a pull paste roller in which the operators work is rendered easier and free from danger, the operation of the machine as far as possible also becoming automatic.
With a view to this, and to other objects which will later appear, the machine includes a pivoted scraper combined with the roller so as to allow the paste to be directed by it to the opposite side of the roll to that from which it is fed, or else automatically returned by one of the rolls to the sameside as that from which fed. One of the rolls is mounted movable with respect to the other so that the two I'Olls can be separated along their line of contact, by suitable mechanism. It space is thus obtainable between the two rolls so that all danger of serious accident to the operator, is obviated.
The present invention is illustrated simply by way of example, in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of the roller;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the roller; Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the roller; and
Figs 4, 5 and 6 are diagrammatic side views illustrating various operating phases.
On the drawings, similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.
This puff paste roller comprises a supporting frame 1 in which are two rolls 2 and 3 of which the lower one 3, is operated by pinions el and 5 and the upper one, 2, by pinions 6 and 7 and chain 8. A. belt 8 runs around roll 3, and carries the paste to be rolled.
A combined scraper and paste receiver 9, is pivoted at 10 and is positionable, as in Fig. 1, against roll 3, to cause the paste 11, to be scraped off the roll and pass over the same.
It is also rockable out of contact with the roll to the position shown in Fig. 5, to permit the paste 11 to follow around the roll and be received on a slab 12.
The upper roll 2 is lined, while the lower one 3 is movable and is carried by two oscillating arms 13 pivoted at 10. The lower roll 3 can be closed up towards the upper one 2 by means of two cams 1% bearing against projections 15 of the two oscillating arms 13 which carry the roll he two cams 14 are mounted rigidly on a shaft 16 supported in the frame 1. Hotatably mounted on shaft 16, is a sector 17 and a connected half 18 of a clutcln-the other half 19 I i hich is slidably and new rotatably mount on shaft 16. b. worm 20 meshes with the i: or ant.
rates the same by means of a hand w The clutch portion 19 is connected to a pin 22 carried by a rod 23 supported in the frame 1.
A spring 24 normally retains the clutch parts 18 and 19 in mesh.
A pedal 25 is connected to rod 223, and when pushed or kicked to the right, seen in Fig. 2, operates to move the clutch parts 18 and 19, out of engagement. Spring 26 are fastened to cams 1d and tend to more the cams away from the projection 15, so as to allow the arms and roll 3, carried thereby, to drop away from roll 2, as shown in Fig. 6.
In the event of an emergency where it is necessary to release anything caught between rolls 2 and 3, it is simply necessary to kick pedal 25 to the right. This disengages the clutch members 18 and 19 leaving the shaft 16 and its cams 1%, free to be rotated by springs 26, relative to the worm and sector 20 and 17. Immediately after rotation of cams 14 away from beneath projections 15, roll 3 drops away from roll 2, as shown in Fig. 6.
Aside from use as an en'iergency release means for roll 3, the worm and sector are used for adjusting the opening between the rolls during regular operation of the roller.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new, is,
1. A puff paste roller having an emergency safety roll control, comprising, a rotatable V fixed roll, aP'coO erat-in rota'table' iinovable roll, supporting means for the movable roll; and manually operable release means comovable roll; arms supporting the movable roll, holding; members retaining the :arms
in fixed position, anda separateireleasex means for; the-holding members, which release means is operable -imemergenc to permit "the movable roll" to automatically move relatively-to the fixed roll.
APHESpasteroller, comprising cooperating rotatable rolls, a combined scraper and paste receiving table pivoted adjacent the rolls and rockable either to contact With oneof the rolls tos'crape and receive the paste therefrom, or to be holly out of operative-contact with the roll.
