Application led October 5, 1923. Serial No. 866,815.
. the following is a full, clear, and exact 1 be adopted without departing appended claims. v
The invention -as .ings comprises a body portion 1 having slop# description.
This invention relates to a sandpaper holder, and has for an object the provision of a simple and eliicient device whereby one or more layers of sandpaper -can be very eiciently mountcdthereon to enable a workman to sandpaper surfaces in a simple and eiiicient manner. f
Another object is to provide means whereby the sandpaper can mounted on and removed from the device with the fewest possible manipulations required by the workman.
A further object is to "provide means whereby the tool can be very readily carried on the hand or arm of the workman so that he will not have to Waste any time in making it available Jfor use at all times. A
The nvention'is illustrated in the drawing?, of whichl lgure 1 is a plan view of the device; 2 is a section taken on' the line 2-2 of 1g. 1.;
Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1; and ig. 4 is a perspective view of the body portion of the device with the cover portion removed therefrom. Y
V The :form of the invention shown inthe drawings is a'preferredv form, although it is understood .that modifications in the "construction Iand arrangement of the parts and in the character of the materials used may spirit of the invention as set' rth in the illustrated in the draws ing sides f2 and 3 anda raised ledge or rib 4 on its upper side, this ledge and the body portion having an aperture 5 therein to receive a clamplng screw.v Around this body portion there" is ada ted vto be wraplped a plurality of layers o sandpaper-suc as 6, the ends 7 and 8 of which are spaced to lie the dge A cover portion'9 is adapted to be placed on the top of the body portion and 1s proe quickly and easily thereto, a screw,
from the y therein and an aprture,
along the top of the body portion adjacent p vided with a groove 10 to receive the ledge 4. The sides 11 and 12 of the cover portion are adapted to bea-r down on the ends 7 and 8 of the sandpaper to press them against the top of the body portion. l
The top 13 of the cover portion is provided with transverse grooves 14 and 15 in which the dependent ends of a metal plate 16 are adaptedto. lie. This metal -plate extends longitudinally along the top of the cover portion and has an aperture throu h which n the stem 17 of a screw 18 extends, t is screw being inserted in the aperture 5 in order to clamp the body portion. and the plate 16 together. The device. is provided with; a handle 19, preferably of resilient\material such as elastic, the ends of which aredisposed under the ends of the plate 1.6 to any desired Y'extent and thereby'. clamped down against the top of the To disassemble the device, uit is merely the cover 9 can be removed, permitting .the removal of one yor more sheetsf sandpaper or the insertion of new ones.
Y This device, as will be readily observable, is simple and efficient, the-'elastic handle being so constructed that the device can be slipped over of the wearer tobe without his havin the device out of the case. Whatl claim is: A-
1. A sandpaper holder which includes a cover portion, avbody lportion to be clamped means engaging the body and the cover portion to' clamp'them together, a plate on'4 the cover portion having an aperture through which the screw passes, a lflexible handle on the coverportion, the ends of which handle are'disposed be ready for use at lany time to waste' time in pulling 's pocket as isgenerally 2. A sandpaper. holder which includes a cover portion when' .the screw 18 1s tightened.
the hand or wrist or forearm cover portion havingy transverse notches a lclamping' screw adapted to rough said aperture, the apertured p depending ends lying in said notches, and a exible handle having ends' which are disosed beneath the 'ends ofthe plate to be by y the tightening ass t clamped therebeneath action of said screw. 3i A' sandpaper holder which includes a ate on. the cover portion havingbody portion havin" slopingsides, a bottom extending vertically therethrough for a' clamping screw, a cover ortion havin body portion is adapted to lie, said cover portion having an aperture through whichn a clamping screw extends, the lower face of the cover portion adjacent the grooves adapted to bear against the ends of sheets of sandpaper wrapped around the bod)T por-` vto lie, and a flexible handle of elastic matetion, a clamping screw passing through the pertures in the body'and cover portions, a ate on said cover kportion having apertures to permit the passage therethrough of the g` clamping screw; said cover portion havin a grooves therein in which sald ledge on the pair of notches on its upper face' into which the depending ends of said plate are adapted 2o rial having its ends disposed along the ends of the plate toy be clamped thereunder by the action of said screw.
