Description

C.- RAPP.
Y Graining Machines.
N0.152,047. Patentedlune16,1874.
UNITED STATES PATENT GEEICE.
CHARLES RAPF, OF SAl\T FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN GRAINING-MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No.7l52,047, dated June 16, 1874; application led February 22, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES RAPP, ot' San Francisco, in the county ot' San Francisco and State of California, have invented a Machine for Graining or Imitating Various Kinds of Wood, of which the following is a specification:
The nature of my invention consists in the combination of two Sets of graining-belts and rollers on the same plane, and arranged by means of adjustable bearing devices for supporting the rollers, and to insure the said belts being kept taut when in operation. The object of this duplication of belts, rollers, 85o., is to render graining by the use of this machine in a perfect manner by a person not skilled in the art.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of the machine embodying my in. vention. Fig. 2 is a plan ot' the same.
A is the frame of the machine, which is constructed of brass or other suitable material. B B are rollers of wood or rubber, or of bot-l1 colnbined. The object of the said rollers is to carry belts D D, that have impressions or grooves cut in their outer surfaces, in imitation of the grains of wood or owers; also raised figures of any description desired. C Cl are the bearings of the aforesaid rollers, and are arranged in such a manner that the belts D Dl may be easily removed, and others substituted ot' different patterns, the object ot' which is to give the machine the widest range of usefulness possible, from' graining doors to flowers on furniture, or the imitation ot' rare and costly woods, in oil or water colors. E E, &c., are adjustable bearings, held in place by the thumb-screws rv x, dto. The object of making said bearings adjustable is, that the belts may be tightened; also, to allow the same to be removed for the purpose of substituting others on which there are different patterns.
/Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. In a graining-machine, the combination ot' the rollers B B and the belts D D, substantially as described.
2. The combination of the frame A, constructed as described, with the rollers B B and belts D D, substantially as described and set forth.
3. The combination of the frame A, as described, with the rollers B B, belts D D, and the adjustable bearings E E, and their thumb-screws w Sto., substantially as and for the purpose hereinbefore set forth.
