Description

PATENTED SEPT.` 3, 1907,
A. R. WILSON.
LAUNDRY DEVICE. APPLICATION FILED MAR. 4, 1907.
@@w'aa d@ f@ @MM ARCHIBALD R. WILSON, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
LAUNDRY DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 3, 190.7.
Application filed March 4, 1907. Serial No. 360,608.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARCHIBALD R. WILSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Iliinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Laundry Devices, of which the followingr is a specification.
The invention relates to .laundry machinery, and particularly to that class of device used in washing.
The invention consists primarily in novel means for vibrating and rubbing the articles being washed and furthermore in novel means for producing friction upon the operative parts. i
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and in which:
Figure l, is a plan, Fig. 2, is a side elevation, Fig. 3, is a perspective view of one of the details, Fig. 4, is a fragmental view showing one of the bearings.
Referring to the drawing in detail, letter A designates a frame which consists of the head piece l0, side pieces ll and I2, base board I3, and cross braces 14 and l5.
A plurality of .rollers B, form the working surface of the device, and upon which the article or fabric being `Washed is manually reciprocated. l
The rollers B are provided at either end with cone shaped journals 16 which are seated in the cone shape bearings 17 countersunk in the inner walls of the side pieces ll and l2 of frame A. This form of bearing pr0- duces a wedging effect on rollers B when pressure is brought to bear thereon and thus the desired friction upon the rollers is attained.
The peripheries of rollers B are spirally corrugated; each roller containing a right and left hand spirally corrugated surface running from a central position to the ends; these corrugations serve to vibrate and spread the articles being washed.
The pocket lying between the head piece Il) and brace 13, serves as a holder for soap or other material used in washin What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In a laundry device the combination with a frame, of a plurality ot rollers pivoted thereto, substantially one-half of each roller having` a right hand spirally corrugated face and substantially one-halt of each roller having a left hand spirally corrugated face, said rollers being arranged so that similar spil-ally corrugated faces lie in juxtaposition. i
