JOHN H. MABBETT, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN REVOLVING SEATS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 151,893, dated June 9, 1674 applicatinn tilt d i June 16, 1873.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, JOHN H. MABBETT, of the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improved Revolving Spring-Seat, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my invention is a cheap, com! fortable, and durable stool with a revolving spring-seat, all constructed in the manner shown by the iigure in the accompanying drawing, which represents a sectional view of the stool, and in Whichc A represents the standard of the stool, containing a snugly-fitted metal tube, m, forming a recess, b, into the bottom of which is dropped a spring, D, made, by preference, of rubber, a step or socket, F, resting upon the spring, being fitted snugly, but so as to slide freely, in the interior of the tube. This step is countersunk at the top for the reception of the lower rounded end d of the spindle B, which supports the seat a, the upper portion e of the spindle tting snugly, but so as to both revolve and slide, in the interior of the metal tube. The extraction of the spindle from the interior ot' the tube may be prevented by a collar, f, on the said spindle, and a pin, h, passed through both standard and tube, the pin being so situated as not to interfere with the yielding of the spindle.
The metal tube is an important feature, as it imparts great strength to the standard, affords a suitable bearing for the upper portion c of the spindle, and a proper, durable guide for the socket F, which must be repeatedly subjected to a sliding movement, and which, in the .lisence of the tube, would soon wear away the Wooden standard.
I claim as my invention- The combination herein set forth, of the metal lining or tube m in the standard A with the sliding step F, spring D, and seatsupporting` spindle B.
