Description

Dec. 9, 1924- J. LEVY ATTACHMENT FOR TELEPHONES Filed June 13, 1923 T'TORNEYS.
Patented Dec. 9, 1924.
UNl'l'E STATS J'ENNIE LEVY, 0'15 PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
ATTACHIVIENT F612 TELEPHONES.
Application filed June 13,
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, JENNIE LEVY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and use- Attachment for Telephones, of which following a specification.
a prior pat granted to me, i have disclosed a novel construction of a support for a telephone receiver which is adapted to sustain the latter in a horizontal or inclined position in proximity to the transmitter and my present invention comprises an attachment to the transmitter which is adaped to actuate the transmitter lever and hold it in the proper position d ing the conversation, the lever being nninually operated and frictionally loclred in the desired icsitions, as will be hereafter explained.
It further consists of novel eatures or construction and advantage as will be hereinafter pointed out.
For the purpose of illustrating my invention, l have shown in the accompanying drawing a form thereof which is at present preferred by me, since this will be found in practice to give satisfactory and reliable results, although it is to be understood that the various instrumentalities of which my invention consists can be variously arranged and organized and that my invention is notlimited to the precise arrangement and organization of these instrumentalities as herein shown and described.
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of an attachment for telephones, embodying my invention.
Figure 2 represents a side elevation of the transmitter showing the lever in section.
Figure 3 represents a plan view of my invention in detached position.
Figure 4: represents a section on line H of Figure 2.
Figure 5 represents, on an enlarged scale, an end view of the manually operated lever and its adjuncts.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Referring to the drawings.

tion of which I pivot, at 4;, the lever 5 which has at one end the finger piece 6 and at the other end the fork 7 which engages the transmitter lever S of the usual construction. The arm 3 has the lateral extension 9 to which is secured the lower end of the spring member 10 which has the holes 11 therein which frictionally contacts with the lev r It will be understood that in the operation or my device, the receiver 12 normally rests upon the stand 13 and when it is desired to tall; into the transi'nitter, the operator presses down on the linger piece 6, so that the parts assume the position seen dotted in Figure 2, the lever of the usual construction being raised the "spring mechanism of the usual 0 When the conversation is ended, 5 is caused to assume the full lines again, said lever in it proper position at all times its contact with the bulged portion 11 t is spring 10.
My device is adapted for the use of per one whose hands or arms have been ampuated and it will be seen that the receiver at all times normally remains as seen in Figure 1 but the operator by the use of the stump of his missing hand can manipulatethe lever 5 and so control the movements of the standard transmitter lever 8.
My invention can be readily applied to standard transmitters by means of the clip 2, as is evident, and will be found to be cheap to manufactureand efficient in its operation.
It will now be apparent that I have devised a new and useful attachment for telephones which embodies the ieatures of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement or" the invention and the above description, and while I have, in the present instance, shown and described a preferred embodiment thereof which will give in practice satisfactory and reliable results, it is to be understood that such embodiment is susceptible of modification in various particulars without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
In a device of the character stated, a
clamp adapted to be secured to a, telephone With said operating lever to retain the same transmitter, an arm carried by said clamp, in either the operative or inoperative posian operating lever pivotally secured to said tions.
arm and having a forked end engaging the JENNIE LEVY.
