TELEPHONE-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 629,058, dated July 18, 1899.
Application and April19, 1899. semi No. 713,574. (No model.)
To (0Z5 whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MOSES WOHLGEMUTH, a citizen of the United States, residing at De troit, in the county of Wayne and State of 5 Michigan, haveinvented certain new and use f ul Improvements in Telephone-Holders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to a novel form of automatic telephone-receiver holder; and the object is to provide a simple, convenient, and efiective device for supporting the receiver and switching the same in and out of circuit. To this end the invention consists in the construction, combination,and arrangement of the several elements of the device, as will be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims. In the accompanying drawings, the same reference characters indicate the same parts of the invention.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved telephone-receiver holder with a portion of the guide-standard broken away. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the position of the same when the telephone is in use. Fig. 3 is a vertical section through the standard Fig. 4 is a plan view of the holder.
formed with a lateral arm 2, from which a standard 3 arises, and 4 a bar whichhas a switch-hook 6, and from the lower .end of'the 1 bar 4 a spring? extends to the fixed pin 8, the tension of the spring being exerted to cei-verw'ere in place.
. 9 9 denote parallel ears on the standard 3, in which is fulcrumed a lever 10, the inner end of which engages a recess 11 in the bar 4, and the outer end is pivoted to a rod 12, which in turn is pivoted to the upper end of an S-shaped lever 13,fulcrumed in thelateral arm 2. The lower end of said lever 13 is pivoted to a horizontal rod 14, the opposite end of which is pivoted to a lever 15, fulcrumed in the bifurcaetd end of the bracket 1. The lever 10 is formed with a notch 10 to receive 1 denotes a bracket fixed to the wall and draw the hook 6 down the sameas if the re the parallel clamping-arms 15 15, between which is pivoted the inner end of the adjustable arm 17 by means of the thumb-screw 18. A bolt 19 is adjustably secured in the free end of the arm 17 by means of the thumbnut 19, and the upper end of said bolt terminates in a longitudinal flange 19 to receive the parallel ears 20 20" of the carrier 20, one end ofwhich is formed with a stationary yoke 21 and the opposite end carries a parallel movable yoke 22, which has a sliding engage ment with said carrier and is adjustably se cured thereto by the thumb-screw 23.
The telephone-receiver is secured in the carrier, as shown, and the arm adjusted vertically to suit the height of a persons ear. \Vhen a call is received, the attendant places his ear to the receiver and moves the arm 17 ashort distance to the left. This operation raises the yoke 5, therebyallowiug the spring very simply and conveniently performed by a slight side movement of thehead both of the operators hands are free. After the conversation is finished -the operator removes his pawl 10 drops into the notch 10' in the lever 10, thereby holding the parts in that position until the pawl is raised and the arm 17 released.
- The accompanying drawings show my iu vention in the best form now known to me;
but many-changes in the details might be made within the skill of a good mechanic without departing from the spirit of my invention as set forth in the claims at the end of this specification. Y
Having thus fully described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination with the bracket 1, the
standard 3 fixed thereto, the bar 4 and yoke 5 havinga sliding engagement with said standard, the lever 10 fulcrurned in said standard and having its inner end coaoting with said bar, the lever 13 fulcrumed in the bottom of the standard and having its upper end operatively connected to the outer end of said lever 10, the lever 15, the rod 11 connecting said levers 13 15, and the carrier-arm 17 pivoted in said lever 15, substantially as and for the purpose set forth. 7
2. In combination, the bracket 1 formed with the integral aunt, and standard 3, the spring-actuated bar 4, and yoke 5, having a sliding engagement with said standard, the lever 10 fulcrumed in the standard and having its inner end operatively connected to said bar, the lever 13, the spring 16 connecting the ing its inner end coacting with the bar 4, and
the pawl 10 fulcrnmed in the standard and having its free end projecting into the path of said notched end of said lever, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
MOSES WOHLGEMUTII.
