Be it known that GEORGE A. BInDsALL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Galt, in the county of lVhiteside and State of Illinois, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ventilated Hats, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a ventilated hat and has for its principal object to provide a head covering with means whereby the head of the wearer may be ventilated while wearing the head covering.

Another object of the invention is to provide a head covering of the above mentioned character, which will permit air to circulate within the interior of a hat when the same is worn by a person and will also prevent the admittance of insects from entering the interior of the hat when worn.

A still further obj ect of the invention is to provide a head covering of the above mentioned character, which is simple in construction, inexpensive and well adapted for the purpose for which it is designated.

Other objects and advantages of this ine Vention will become apparent during the course of the following description.

In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which like numerals designate like parts throughout the same Figure l is a perspective View showing the Ventilating means in position upon the hat.

Figure 3 is a detail View showing the construction of the Ventilating member.

In the drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral l designates the crown of a hat and is provided with the usual brim portion 2. The brim 2 of the hat carries the usual sweat band 3 on the interior thereof.

A Ventilating screen 4 is of such a width as to give the height of the hat the proper appearance when in use. Therefore this ventilating screen 4 may be of various widths so as to give the desired height of the hat or cap to suit the wearer thereof. This venti- 1923. Serial No. 629,470.

lating screen 4 is circumferentially disposed between the crown l and the brim 2 of the hat and is secured or fastened at its upper end to the inner wall of the crown of the hat l in any suitable manner and may be secured thereto by sewing or other suitable fastening means. The bottom edge of the Ventilating screen 4 is secured to the outer face of the brim 2 in the same manner.

The Ventilating screen 4 is made of a light material and T provide a reinforcing wire 5 of a heavier gage than the wire used in the Ventilating screen 4 and this reinforcing wire 5 may be secured to the Ventilating screen 4 by soldering the same to the body of the Ventilating screen or in any other suitable manner. This reinforcing wire extends circumferentially around the Ventilating screen 4 and is so constructed and bent so as to fully reinforce the Ventilating screen 4 throughout its entire width. This is more clearly shown in Fig. 3 of the drawing.

As shown in Fig. l the hat together with the Ventilated screen 4 associated therewith is worn by the person and while being `worn the Ventilating screen 4 allows a circulation of air to enter into the interior of the hat and thereby thoroughly Ventilate the head of the person wearing the hat. The reinforcing wire 5 will also give the appearance of the usual ribbon or band which is placed upon the crown of the hat and thereby add to the good appearance of the hat.

From the foregoing description of the construction of my improved apparatus, it will be seen that l have provided a simple, inexpensive, and eficient means for carrying out the objects of the invention, and while Ihave particularly described the elements best adapted to perform the functions set forth, it is obvious that various changes in form, proportion and in the minor details of construction may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the principles of the invention.
