Description
UNITED STATES PATENT FFIGE.,
JOHN KENNEDY, OF OSAGE MISSION, KANSAS.
IMPROVEMENT IN BRlDLE-SNAPS.
vSpecification forming part of Letters Patent No. 151,782, dated June 9v, 1874; application filed October 11, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J oHN KENNEDY, 'of Osage Mission, in the county of Neosho and the State ,of Kansas, have invented a new and Improved Bridle-Snap; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation, partly broken away; and Fig. 2, a plan view.
The invention consists in the novel con struction of a bridle-snap, as hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.
A represents the hook, Whose shank has a transverse rear slot, B, and circular top iiange G. The latter forms a groove, I, in which slides a snap, O, having from its point a sloping upward extension or thumb-piece, K. This slide is slotted at D, to allow it to move upon the guide-pin F and against the tension of spring H. The point J of the slide O is held by the spring H against the end of the hook A, thus ei'ectually preventing its escape from the bridle-rin g.
By simply pressing the usual iron ring upon the inclined surface of piece K, the slide C will recede and allow of the entrance of ring within the concavity of the hook, while it may also be easily operated by thumb or tin ger.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- As an article of manufacture, a snaphook consisting of hook AB, groove I, slide C, provided with thumb-piece K, slot D, and guidepinF, the pin E, and spiral spring H, all constructed and arranged as and for the purpose specified.
- JOHN KENNEDY. Vitnesses:
JAMEs A. SONGER, A JOHN H. Scor'r.
