IMPROVEMENT I N LUBRICATING DEVICES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 151,691, dated June 9, 1874; application filed May 28, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, S. MADIsoN FEEZLER, of Fayette, Seneca county, New York,have invented an Improvement in Oil-Cans, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my invention is to provide a self-cleaning nozzle for oil-cans.
The following is a description of my invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is a vertical transverse section of an oil-can embodying my invention, in which- A H H A is the can, and A M the nozzle B F is a small metal rod or wire, the end of which at B fits the mouth of the nozzle, and is made with a neck at O. The other end has a hook at F, and passes through the loop a D a, afterwhich it is bent so as to form a circle. The loop a D a is made of a single piece of wire, as shown in Fig. 2, the arms of which, a a, are fastened to the bottom of the can by solder or otherwise. When used, the pressure on the bottom forces it to'assume the position of the dotted line, and the rod B F is pushed out so that the neck G will be at the mouth of the nozzle. This neck is smaller than the mouth itself, and thus permits the oil to escape. When the pressure is withdrawn, the rod assumes its original position. It is obvious that, provided with the rod B F, the nozzle can be thrust into dust, grease, packing, or any kind of dirt, and there used without danger of the mouth becoming stopped up. The action of the rod cleans the nozzle.
I claim as my invention In oil-cans having spring-bottoms, the rod B F, with the neck 0, the loop a D a, and hook F, in combination with the nozzle A M and the bottom H H, substantially as and for the purposes hereinbefore described.
