UNTTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
RIMMON O. FAY, OF HOPEDALE, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO THE HOPEDALE MACHINE COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
SPlNDLE-SUPPORT.
SPECIFICATION forming part. of Letters Patent No. 332,068, dated December 8,1885.
Application filed May 18, 1885.
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, RIMMON O. FAY, of Hopedale, county of \Vorccster. and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Spindle-Supports, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification, like letters on the drawings representing like parts.
My invention relates to means for stoppering the oil-inlets for spindle supports or steps; and it consists in a spindle support or step provided with an oil-leg having a gravity plug or valve fitted in its month, which plug or valve is secured to the leg by a hook on one of its ends engaging a check-piece secured in the oil-leg, as I will now proceed to particu larly set forth and claim.
Figure 1 shows a spindle support or step with its oil-leg partially broken out, myimproved valve being shown in its two positions by full and dotted lines; and Fig. 2 shows the valve separately.
The support or step A, having the oil-receiving leg, is of well-known construction. I provide the upper end of the oilreceiving leg with a valve, 0, shown as a tapering plug pro vided with a stem, (4, which at its lower end is made to engage a check-piece, b, the said stern being preferably of wire bent to form a hook to embrace the said check-piece, so that Serial No. 165,825. (No model.)
the valve may be lifted, as in dotted lines, to uncover the mouth of the oil-receiving leg to enable the introduction of oil from the spout of an oil-can, as shown by the dotted lines 0, and, preferably, the large end of the plug will be extended sufficiently above the open end of the leg, as shown in Fig. 1 by full lines, to enable the attendant by the nozzle of the can to push the said plug over and up outot' the oilreceiving leg, as shown in dotted lines; but as soon as the pressure is removed the valve drops by its own gravity. The check I) is shown as made from a piece of wire sprung into the said.
0il-receiving leg, as in Fig. 1, aprojcction, b, hooking under a part of the oil-receiving leg.
I claim- The spindle support or case provided with an oil-receiving leg, A, and the check-piece I), provided with a hook, b, to retain it in said leg, combined with the valve or plug a, having the hooked stem (1. in engagement with said check-piece, substantially as shown and de scribed.
In testimony whereof I hzwe signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
RIMMON O. FAY.
