Be it known that I, ABRAHAM Zwmnnnson, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Marl,- hattan, in the county and Sta-te O N ew York, have invented a new and Improved Brassire, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention has relation to wearing apparel and refers more particularly to an improvement in brassires.

The invention contemplates for its principal object a brassire which is provided with means for effectively encasing the body of the wearer, and which conforms to the movement of the body, whileat the same time preventing its displacement as well as the displacement of the corset.

As a fur-ther object the invention provides a new and improved brassire which is especially designed for wear by stout women and is so designed as to produce pressure against the diaphragm and the front and median portion of the wearers body andto exert a uniform pressure directly under the bust for properly supporting the internal organs, which have a tendency7 to droop especially after childbirth.

The invention further contemplates a brassire which constitutes an appliance for promoting the proper distribution of the fat roll of the upper abdomen'and which tends to further distribute the same below the breast and flare of the ribs.

As a still further object the invention contemplates a brassire which is simple in its construction7 inexpensive to manufacture and which is thoroughly reliable and highly eflicient in its purpose.

' lVth the above recited and other objects in view, the invention resides in the novel construction set forth in the following specification, particularly pointed out in the appended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, it being understood that the right is reserved to embodiments other than those actually illustrated herein to the full extent indicated by the general meaning of the terms in which the claims are expressed.

Referring to the drawings by characters of reference, the body of the brassire is preferably constructed from a single length of inelastic material 10, the opposite end edges 11 and 12 of which are provided with int'erengageable fastening elements. Adj acent the opposite ends the material is vertically plaited as alt 13 to receive between the folds thereof one end of an elastic strip 14, which is secured in place Iby the lines of Stitching 15 which forni the plait. The opposite end of the elastic strip is attached between the inwardly folded end by the line of stitching 1G which holds said inturned end in place. This forms yieldable portions which when the brassire is arranged in place will lie in the central portion of the back of the wearer. The medial portion of the front of the brassire is provided with spaced parallel plaits 17 between the folds at the inner side of which the opposite ends of f' this arrangement a yieldable portion is pro-y vided at the front of the brassire which is disposed under and between the bust for properly supporting the same. This yieldable portion also serves to compente for the expansion and contraction of the chest to allow for comfortable breathing, while at the same time preventing displacement of the garment. The opposite under side edges ofthe strip l0 are provided with V-shaped notches 20 which are spanned by elastic gussets 21 for the `purpose of contracting the lower edge about the waist 0f the wearer to prevent riding' up of the brassire and at the same time to hold the corset and other iindergarmentsk against displacement. A non-elastic strip or tape 22 extends from one V-shaped notch 20 tothe opposite V-shaped notch for the purpose of limiting the stretching action of the lower part of the body 10 of the brassire.

As a new article of manufacture, a brassire including a body member consisting of a length of inelastic material having interengageable means at the opposite ends thereof for maintaining the same in encircling relation on the Wearers body, parallel vertical plaits located at the sides ot' the medial front portion, crossed elastic strips having their opposite ends secured between the inner folds of said plaits to lie on the inner tace of the body member, the lower edges at the opposite sides of said body having V-shaped notches formed therein, elastic gussets in said notches, and elastic strips secured within the medial rear portion of said body, all of said elastic elements serving to set up a combined contractive action in various horizontal planes for properly encasing and supporting the body of the wearer.
