Be it known that l, HERBERT K. STURDY, Jr., a citizen of the United States, residing at Attleboro Falls, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display Devices, of which the following is a specification.

This invent-ion relates to display devices of the type adapted to display small articles such as jewelry and the like; and the object of this invention is to provide a holder of this character which comprises a plurality of openings therein, and holder cards adapted to lit into and have their edges arranged to engage those of the openings, said cards having intermediate portions standing upward above the plane of the frontplate and adapted to have the articles to be displayed mounted on the upstanding portions.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, as will be more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a front view of my improved display device showing a plurality of openings in the front plate thereof, of the desired shape.

Figure 2 is a sectional side elevation on line 2-2 of Figure 1, showing spaced-apart front and back plates and the holder cards mounted therein supporting the articles of jewelry.

Figure 3 is a fragmental section on line 3-8 of Figure 1, showing the front and back plates with a spacer interposed between them.

Figure 4 shows one of the holder cards in extended position, one of the ends of the card being notched.

Figure 5 shows one of the holder cards folded intermediate its ends to support the article to be displayed above the plane of its supporting plate.

Figure 6 shows a cuff button which is one of the many articles of jewelry which may be displayed in my improved display device.

It is found in the displaying of such articles as cuff buttons where it is desired that both heads of a button may be seen while mounted in its holder, of advantage to pro- 8, 1923. Serial No. 661,675.

vide a front plate having a series of openings therein and a member formed by folding a strip of cardboard or other material upon itself with one or both of its ends arranged to be tucked under the edges of the opening in such a way that the holder card can not be accidentally disconnected therefrom, the folded portion of the holder being adapted to stand at an angle above the plane of the front plate to support the article to be displayed in this upstanding portion; and the following is a detailed description of one construction of display ,de-vice by which theseresults may be obtained.

With reference to the drawing, l() designates the front plate of a display device and 11 the back plate thereof which is spaced from the front plate by means of intermediate spacers 12 arranged along the edges of these plates. The front plate is provided with a plurality of openings 13, the side walls of these openings being oppositely notched or recessed as at 14 intermediate its upper and lower marginal edges.

My improved article holder member 15 is preferably formed of cardboard and in rectangular shape, as illustrated in Figure 4C, the same being adapted to be folded upon itself along the line 16 and this folded portion is provided with openings 17 into which the cuff buttons 20, or other article, to be displayed, are inserted. The width of the rear end portion 19 of I'this holder is substantially that of the width of the opening through the notches lt and is adapted to be passed inwardly through these notches and then extend back beneath the portions 18 between the front and back plates to securely retain the holder in its opening. To further lock the holder in its inverted position, I have notched its front edges as at 21 and inserted these notched edges into the opening whereby the inherent spring in the stock of the holder causes its edge 22 to engage the edge 23 in the openingthereby securely locking the whole in its opening effectually preventing the holder when so positioned, from dropping out of the card even when inverted.

My improved display device is extremely simple and practical in construction and effective in its operation and by its use devices such as cuff buttons and the like, may be mounted so that both the head members may be seen while supported. in display position.

The foregoing` description is directed solely towards the construction illustrated, but l desire it to he understood that l reserve the privilege of resorting to all the mechanical changes to which the device is susceptible, the invention being defined and limited only loy the terms of the appended claims.

I claim:

1. i1 display device for jewelry or the li lie, comprising; a` plate having an opening therein Zgenerally rectangular in shape with its opposite side walls recessed, in combination with a holder card folded to provide an upstanding intermediate portion and haring one end portion extending` through said recesses beneath the stock of said plate adiacent the recesses and its opposite end engaging an end wall of said opening to support said folded portion in upstanding position.

A display device for iewelry or the like, comprising'a plate ha\f'in ej an opening` therein generally rectangular in shape with its opposite side walls recessed, in combination with a holder card folded to provide 'an upstanding intermediate portion and having one end portion extending` through said recesses beneath the stock of said plate and under 'an-end wall of said opening, and its opposite end being; notched to extend into said opening and engage the opposite end wall thereof to support said folded portion in upstanding position.

A display device for jewelry or the like, comlnisinlg) a plate having7 an openingr therein generally rectangular in shape with opposite recessed side walls, in combination with a holder card having an opstanding" intermediate portion folded upon itself to provide portions in substantially parallel planes having` one end adapted to extend through saidside wall recesses and 1oeneath the adjacent edges of the plate and the other end portion to engage an end wall of the opening' and support said folded portion in npstanding position7 whereby the articles to he displayed are exposed on hoth faces.

l. .fr display device for jewelry or the like, comprising a plate having an opening therein generally rectangular in shape with opposite recessed side walls, in coinhination with a holder card having an npstanding intermediate portion folded upon itself and having one end portion shaped to extend through said side wall recesses and beneath the: stock at the rear of the recesses and the other end portion to engage an end wall of the ope-ning forward of the recesses to support said folded portion in npstanding' position whereby the articles to he displayed are exposed on both faces.
