UNITED STATES WILLARD A. OEIt'lSBEE, 0F TAUNTON, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIG-NUP, TO TAUNTO N PEAR-L wonKs, inc, or renn'ron, MASSACHUSETTS, a oonronhrron on MAINE.
DISPLAY DEVICE. v
Application filed February 18, 1924. Serial No. 698,433.
To all whom it may c012 corn lie it known that l, lVrLmit-m ii. Onarsnnn, a citizen of the United Slates residing at llaunton in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Display Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a display device of the class adapted for use in displaying cull buttons and other articles of jewelry-and the object of this invention is to provide a display device of this character in which individual cards on which the articles are mounted are adapted tobe reinovably held in display position on the device.
The invention further consists in the provision of means in said device whereby the cards or holders carrying the articles to be displayed are held in bowed position to 1 ro vide a space or recess for the receptionoi the under portion of the button or article supported on the card." 7
A "further object of the invention is the provision of an article holding card of such. a size that it is adapted to cover the plate openings to cause the device to present finished and more attractive appearance.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of constructioin as will be more fully describeth and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
in the accompanying drawing:
Figure l is a plan view of a display device with a portion broken away to illustrate the spacing wall between the :tront and back plates.
Figure 2 is a fi'agniental sectional elevation illustrating the holder card with a button mounted thereon and supported in position in an opening in the front plate of the display device. Figure 3 is article-holding Figure 4; is
a plan view showing the ard,
a perspective view of the article-holding card in the bent or bowed position which it assumes when mounted in the display device.
It is found in practice in displaying the separable type of cull button desirous to form the display device as thin as possible, that is, with the front and back plates the minimum distance apart and I have provided a device of this character in which the article-holding cards are held in bent or bowed relation so as to provide a space for the reception of the under portion of the button and the following is a detailed description of one construction of display device by which these results may be obtainedz l i ith reference to the drawing, 10 designates the front plate having openings 11 therein, whichplateis held in spaced rela tion to the back plate 12 by means of intermediate spacing walls 13 which extend between the two plates and support the portion 20 of the front plate between the openings 11. The front plate is provided with tabs or projections 14 extending into the openings 11 from opposite side edges there or" for the support of an article holding card if) which is provided with openings or slots 16 to be engaged by these tabs.
This article-holding card 15 has a length substantially that of the length of the opening in the front plate and a width greater than that of said opening with its slots 16 spaced a greater distance apart than the distance between said tabs whereby the card must be bowed or buckled as illustrated in Figure lyvwhen placed. in the plate opening *ith its slots 16 engaging the tabs la and when placed in this position it will be held by the inherentspring oi its stock and provide a space for the reception of the under portion oi the button.
In order to mount separable cull links or cuff buttons and other articles of jewelry on this card, I have provided suitable holes or openings 17 for the reception of the stud portion of a cult. link i8 which may be engaged by the coinpleiuental portion of the button to hold the button in position thereon.
By providing the spacing walls 13 adj acent the tab-supporting; edges 01: the opening, 1 support these ed s so thatthey may more rigidly hold the card in its position in the opening while in some instances these walls may be engaged by the edges of the articleholding cards which project below the front plate to assist supporting these cards in position.
It will thus be seen that l have a display device in which an article holding card is reinovably held in bowed or buckled posi tion, which card may be easily taken from the display device for dispensing the articles carried thereby.
The foregoing description is directed solely towards the construction illustrated, but I desire it to be understood that I reserve the privilege of resorting to all the mechanical changes to which the device is susceptible, the invention being defined and limited only by the terms of the appended claims.

l. A display card comprising a supporting sheet having a pair of spaced tongues projecting towards each other and an article carrying card having spaced parallel slots along opposite edges thereof and adapted to receive the tongues of the supporting sheet, the distance between said slots being such, relative to the distance between the bases of the tongues, that the cards are held in arched position.
2. A display card comprising a supporing sheet having a plurality of apertures for theedges of carrying cards and having opposed tongues associated with said apertures, and article carrying cards having edge-s adapted to enter said apertures and spaced parallel slots adjacent said edges and adapted to receive said tongues of the supporting sheet.
8. A display card comprising a supporting sheet provided with a substantially rectangular opening having tongues projecting from two opposed edges thereof, and an article carrying card having a pair of spaced slots arranged along opposite edges thereof and ada ted to be enga ed b said tongues.
A. A display card comprising a supporting sheet provided with a substantially rectangular opening and having tongues projecting towards each other from two opposed edges of said opening, and a card having parallel slots arranged along its opposite eeges and adapted to receive said tongues, said card being of sli htly less length than said opening in the supporting sheet.
5. A display device for jewelry and the like, comprising a front plate with an opening therein, tabs extending into the openings from the edges thereof, and an article-holding card having slots through which said tabs extend when the edges of the card are set at an angle thereto to be held in engagement with said tabs under tension by the inherent spring of the stock of said card.
6. A display device for jewelry and the like, comprising a plate with an opening therein, tabs extending into said opening from the opposite edges thereof, and an article-holding card having slots normally spaced a greater distance apart than said tabs, said tabs extending into said slots to support said card under tension in bowed position.
7. A display device for buttons comprising a frame having a front plate with a plurality of openings therein, tabs extending into each opening from opposite edges thereof, and a button-holding card for each opening having slots adjacent its edges nor-- mally spaced a greater distance apart than its engaging tabs, said tabs being adapted to extend through said openings to support said card in bowed position to provide a space beneath for the rear portion of a button mounted on said card.
6. A display device for jewelry and the like comprising a front plate having an opening therein, a back plate, a spacing wall between said plates extending adjacent and supporting an edge of said opening, tabs extending into said opening from said edge, and an article-holding card having slots therein engaging said tabs to reinovably support said cards in display position.
