M. L. FOX ET L DISPLAY APPARATUS HlllHm il il Patented Apr. 29, 1924.
STTS PATENT OFFICE.
MAURICE L. F07. AND DAVID ST. GEORGE, 0F PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND, ASSIG-NORS TO THE C. il. FOX COMPANY, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND, A CORPORATION 0F RHODE ISLAND.
:DISPLAYy APPARATUS.
Application filed July 19,
To all fui/tom t may concern:
Be it known that we, MAURICE L. FOX and DAvID ST. GEORGE, both citizens of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Display Apparatus, of which the following is a specifi cation.
Our invention relates to devices adapted to detachably support and display articles of jewelry and other novelties and is particularly adapted for carrying pairs or sets of snap or separable cuif links.
The essential objects of our invention are to prominently display the articles; to render it possible to readily detach the dis played articles in forni for delivery to the purchaser; to insure that the detachable mounting card lie in the plane of the backing card whereby bending of the mounting card is avoided, and a maximum ofspace is afforded for packing for transportation; to insure against accidental detachment of the mounting cards from the backing card; and to attain these ends in a simple and inexpensive structure capable of facile ma` nipulation.
To the above ends essentially our invention consists in such parts and in such combinations of parts as fall within the scope of the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings which form a part of this specification,
Figures 1 and 2 are front and side elevations respectively of our display apparatus omitting all but one of the detachable mounting cards,
Figure 3, a fragmentary rear elevation of the same,
Figure 4, a section on line 4 4 of Figure 1, and
Figure 5, a detail plan View of one of the mounting cards.
Like reference characters indicate like parts throughout the views.
In the form of our display apparatus herein illustrated 7 represents a stiff backing piece or card provided with openings 8 arranged in this instance in vertical and horizontal series. In detail the openings 8 are longitudinally oblong, and in this instance have intermediate their extremities pairs of arcuate lateral enlargements 9 at 1923. A serial No, 652,478.
opposite points. As shown a collapsible'leg 10 is. integral with a strip 11 fast to the back of the upper portion of the member 7, and is foldable along a line 12 of weakened area. A locking flap 13 integral with the bottom of the strip 11 has a T shaped tongue 14 adapted to engage the leg 10 through a bayonet slot 15 in the latter.
Detachably engaging with the backing member in the openings 8 are detachable mounting cards 18. Each card comprises a rectangular body portion 19 provided with holes 2O spaced from each other interme-k diate its length and disposed longitudinally thereof. Each card is provided at its end with a T shaped extension consisting of a neck 21 and lateral ears 22. The portion 19 of each mounting card is of greater width than the width of the openings 8, and the necks 21 are suiliciently narrow to slidably enter the relatively reduced end portions 8 of the'openings, while the ears 22 are of a width capable of passing loosely through the enlargements 9 of the slots. Therefore, in order to apply the mounting cards to the backing the flexible mounting card is iirst arched by the thumb and finger in front of the backing and the ears 22 pass from the front rearwardly through the enlargements 9 and are then released, whereupon the necks 21 expand into and to the extremities of the relatively reduced end portions of the openings 8 where the ears which overlap the margins of the openings at the back of the member 7 retain the mounting card against disengagement.
Before applying the mounting cards above described it will be understood that the articles to be displayed have been suitably attached to the card. In this instance the articles upon the card are separable cull links of the snap type. Each comprises companion members 25 consisting of heads 26, posts 27, and shoes 28. The male member or ball 30 passes loosely through one of the holes 2O in the card 18 and enters the socket in the companion shoe in the usual manner.
It will be observed from an inspection of Figures 3 and 4 that the enlargements 9 of the slots in the members 7 are sufciently ample to allow the shoes 28 to enter tne plane thereof and one set of heads to project entirely through the member 7. Thus the mounted cards 18 lie substantially in the plane of the backing card so as not to become abnormally bent, and greater security of engagement of the card to the backing is insured Without any locking means other than the ears 22.
It is obvious that the articles displayed are already carded and need only be manually detached from the backing card When the saine are delivered to a custo-mer.
We claim In a display device of the type set forth, a rigid backing provided with openings comprising retracted end portions and transversely enlarged intermediate portions, iiexible mounting cards in front o the openings provided with holes in transverse alignment With the centers of the enlarged portions of said openings, necks on the ends of the cards adapte-d to slide in the retracted portions of the openings, and lateral ears on the necks adapted to engage the back of the backing.
In testimony whereof We have afxed our signatures.
