IMPROVEMENT IN LAMP-PENDANTS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 1 51,550, dated J une 2, 1874; application filed May 9, 1874.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, WILLIAM M. UNDER- HILL, of Oconto, Oconto county, Visconsin, have invented a new and Improved Lamp- Pendant, of which the following is a specification:

Myinvention consists of a piece of wire bent in triangular or other equivalent form, with the base bent up in the form of two sides of a triangle toward the apex of the triangular figure made by the wire, and having a little notch at its apex to hold the pendant when suspended for use, the triangular piece being suspended from the ceiling or other support at the apex of its angle.

The contrivance is to be used for lowering the lamp to clean it, and for other purposes, by shifting the pendant out of the notch in the basewire of the triangle and letting it drop down in one of the angles between the base and one of the side peces, by which the lamp will be lowered considerably from its normal position. The triangular portion of the pendant may have its sides constructed so as to be shortened and extended as a further means by which to adapt it to high or low ceilings.

Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved lamp-pendant, showing the position when the lamp is elevated. Fig. 2 is a side elevation, showing the lamp dropped down; and Fig. 3 is an elevation in dotted lines, showing how the pendant may be arranged for extending or shortening it.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.

A represents the sides, and B the bottom or base, of a triangular pendant, formed of a rod bent in the manner shown, the base being bent upward toward the apex O, and provided with a notch, D, at its apex, to hold the pendant E in the most elevated position, the triangle being suspended at its apex G from the ceiling or other support by a hook or other means.

By shifting the pendant E out of the notch D, and letting it drop into one of the angles F, it will be lowered to a considerable extent,

for convenience in trimming the lamp or dropping the light.

If the sides A be provided with a longer rod or extension-tubes G and adjusting-screws H, said sides being separated at the top, and also separated at the bottom, and joined by means of knuckles K, the contrivance may be adjusted to high or low ceilings.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent The triangular hanger A B 0, having the base elevated, and provided with a notch, I), at the top, in combination with the pendant E, substantially as specified.
