IMPROVEMENT IN RGCKING-CHAIR FAN ATTACHMENTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 15 HA5L dated May 26, 1874; application filed April 21, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE M. Torn, of
Leesville, in the county of Henry and State of ters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure l is a side elevation, and Fig. 2 is an inside view, of the rocker with the fan-lever attached.
My invention relates to a fan attachment to a chair, or crib, or cradle, as hereinafter described.
A represents a chair. B is a fan provided with the tube or eye a to receive the staif O, which is held in its upright position by the frame 0, and has its hearings in a plate fastened to the top part of the frame, and in the brace a attached to the frame and to the side of the chair-standard F. 1) represents a lever pivoted to the inner side of the rocker E. The fan is operated by means of the lever and the cords b b and the spring 0. One end of the cords is attached to and wrapped reversely around the stall. The cord 1) extends over the pulley d on the standard F, and is fastened to the back end of the lever, and cord 1) is attached to the spring, which may be an elastic, spiral, or any other suitable spring.
The cords and spring are adjusted so that when the chair is not occupied the lever is in the position shown in the drawings, with the front end below the rocker and the back part against the stop-pin e. The forward movement of the chair draws the cord I) backward, revolving the staff and fan, and, as the chair rocks backward, the spring, drawing on the cord 1), reverses the motion of the staff, and thus the rocking of the chair keeps the fan in motion.
Two fans may be used by attaching another fan with like devices on the other side of the chair.

I am aware that fans attached to chairs operated by pivoted levers, cords, and springs are not new, and I do not claim them; but
hat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- In combination with a chair or cradle, A, provided with a pivotal lever, D, and revolving staff G arranged at its side, the cords I) 1), spring 0, and fan B, adjustable upon said staii'f, substantially as and for the purpose described.
