To all whom it may concern: a a
Be it known that I, WILLIAM G. McGmnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis inthe county of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented new and useful Improvements in Shoe Polishers, of which the following is a specification;
' This invention relates to daubers for shoe wherein Figure 1 is a view in elevation of the da-uber constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure-2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.' 1
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3.3 of Figure 1.
. he dauber essentially consists of a container 10 preferably of cylindrical formation in cross section, and which container is of a size to permit of its being conveniently handled for the purpose intended. The container is reduced and threaded at one end as at 11, and screwed onto this end of the container is -a cap 12 including a conical shaped portion 13 which .terminates to provide an annular flange 14, and the edge of which extends inwardly as at 15 for a purpose to be presently described -Garried by the cap 12 and disposed Within the latter is a substantially conical shaped member 16 which forms a support for the olish or paste 17, and at the same time de nes a restricted outletopening therefor, the paste being fed through the bristles of the dauber through this. opening as will be readily understood; Supported by the cap 13 is aslide valve 13' adapted to control the discharge of the contents of the container as will be readily understood. This valve is mounted to slide across the restricted outlet opening for the contents, and includes a stem which can be conveniently.-
manipulated to either open or closethe valve as the occasion'may require. The small end upon itself to, provide a. bead 18, and as clearly shown in Figure 2, thebristles 19 of the dauber are efiectively'clamped between this bead and the annular flange 14 and inwardly directed edge 15 of the 'cap. Arranged to slide within the container 1s a fol- .of the conical shaped member 16' is turned lower 20, the annular edge of which is grooved to receive a vpacking 21. which contacts the inner wall of the container. upper end of the containerjs open to re ceive the hand of the user when itis necessary to move the polish 17 in a direction of the bristles 19, and this isaccomplished.
by! simply pressing upon the follower 20 The which reposes upon the upper end of the polish or paste 17. Manifestly, a small portion of polish ma be maintained in the position shown .in igure-2, wherein. it will be noted that the polish or paste is arranged v centrally of the bristles 19 and substantially flush with the lower or free ends of the bristles, thus making it possible to apply the aste to the shoe without bringing the hand or fingers in contact with the paste, and at the same time assure a pro or or equal distribution of the paste over t e entire area of the shoe'. .The dauber is therefore meritorious from an economical point of view in' that it eliminates waste of the polish, which cannot be easily prevented by the customary manner of applying paste to the shoe by the hands or fingers.
While it is going description, the nature and advantages of the invention will be readil apparent, I desire to have it understo that I do not limit myself to what is herein shown and described, and-that such changes may be resorted to when desired as .fall within the scope of what is claimed.
Having thus described the invention, 1'
